3. Tucson Train

Both the intro and outro feature a restless tapping sound – like either a train rhythm, or impatiently tapping fingers, perhaps. A rich melodic hook, again making me think of the ‘Tunnel’ album. The drums start on the second verse. It’s a mostly positive tale of a guy looking forward to meeting his girl off the said train, but hinting at the darkness he’s trying to escape by doing so – there’s a ‘voice that keeps me awake at night’, and he wishes ‘If I could just turn off my brain’. It could be a counterpoint to ‘There Goes My Miracle’: here, she’s arriving; there, she’s leaving.

"So where'd you listen to it, Mr. Mysterious?  Link, please?"   I should have been more clear that was parody, as though I believed the train video was the real song, ha, I am such a comedian. That review  by the guy in the Independent-"could well be one of his greatest albums yet"-wow, is he a Kool-aide drinker. I was driving and heard Hello Sunshine again, have a slightly more positive opinion of it, but Western Stars still sucks. I think there will be some good cuts off the rest of the album.

That's the best of the 3 so far, by a large margin, lyrically more dense, not just repeating the same lyrics over and over like the last two. Pretty strong lyrics. Sung in more of a Bruce voice. Very heavy on the strings, so heavy they drown out the horns, but sounds nice, the string chorus riff is catchy. Struck me as very funny some fans said about the 1st release that they didn't like country but liked that, Sunshine had nothing to do with country. You take away the strings and this is a modern country song, with the Bruce-drawl he sings it with and the lyrical content.

She said last night she read those letters...
And they made her feel one hundred years old...

So he uses Patti, Suzie and Charlie.  Who is the bass player, drummer, definitely not the Miami Horns.

Of the 3 releases so far I like TT the best with the other two tied.

So far I like how all three evoke past era influences.

Also really like the Springsteen (Dwayne Eddie) guitar doubling the riff 👍

My friend (same one who hates the riff but likes the song) picked up on the guitar, said that Gretsch, is that his, I said remember from one of the documentaries showed a big collection of guitars in his studio that he never plays live, a lot of Gibsons & I think some of these. I can see the Chet Atkins signature so pretty sure that is a Gretsch Chet Atkins 1959 Model replica (new), list price $4149   https://www.gretschguitars.com...th-bigsby/2401353822

I love Hello Sunshine and Tucson Train. Springsteen is getting old keeping that class he always had . I didn t like There goes my miracle too much but when i listened my 6 years old son singing it… I guess Springsteen does it for all of us, not only for the 40 years old like me but to all ages… For the same reason, for ages i have only listened lets be friends and surprise surprise one time...

I am waiting anxiously for the 14th of June hoping , like in the past, to hear more before

but I am afraid the new record won't run on heavy rotation either in our house or in the car.

I haven't listened to these much other than the perfunctory original listen.  That alone says a lot to me about these songs.  Normally I'd be dissecting them and listening to them over and over.  But they just didn't grab me like every other albums initial listen.  I agree and will take it one step further.  I don't think these will be on any heavy rotation on any radio station after the first week other than E Street Radio.

All that being said, I also agree with NUNOPORTO and I'll take it one step further.  He does write and play just for all of us but more importantly he writes for himself.

Even at age 69, Springsteen is constantly evolving and experimenting, testing himself and us.  I hope I'm pleasantly surprised by the rest of the album and even if I'm not, I'll buy it. lol

One thing for sure, I'm looking forward to and I'll be more than ready for the 2020 tour.

This one is awesome. Makes the other two sound better when played together.  Can definitely feel the characters mood evolving from despair to hope. Cant wait for the full album.  Hope Preorders ship early.

I agree. I get the sense that a story is being told, to do with depression and the idea that a man CAN change. I've also played the songs continuously together. The sum is greater than its parts. Bruce is telling us his story, to some extent. How many artists bare their soul in this way? Maybe this will be an album, that when taken on its own merits, will be a great one.
