As for the question, on Largo 78 Bruce says The Promised Land is his favorite song, which makes sense, considering its the best damn thing he's ever written.

Good thread by the way. Next up, the best song of Don Henley's mind. I'll say Witchy Woman.
"In a world gone mad, we will not spank the monkey, but the monkey will spank us."
It may have been Promised land in 1978, but that was 30 years ago.

If I was going to guess, I would base it on what he plays the most. Probably some crap like Bobby Jean or No Surrender.

By the way, Open all night is supposed to be serious, so all you guy appologies and take a 10 minute time out. This is not Off Topic.
At my first Bruce concert, Bruce claimed it was BTR:

29.02.88 Worcester, MA, intro to ?Born to Run?
??Oh, thank you....I was telling the folks last night that, uh....lot of times when somebody comes up to me on the street or something, the one question they always ask is what my favorite song is that I wrote....and uh....usually I say ?Well, no, I don?t have a favorite? but that?s bullshit, you know (chuckles) it?s like, it?s like....actually this (chuckles)....this song, I guess, this song is my favorite song

Handle every situation like a dog:
If you can't eat it or hump it, piss on it and walk away.

You lot are Slippin' Bruce said in 2006 in a BBC interview ' Born to Run is the song I put my heart & Soul into, it took months to record, it nearly killed me, it is the song that put me on the map and I'll be forever grateful for that' now whether it's his favourite.....but if I had to play Bruce to someone for the first time, well it was good enough for me!

You're supposed to switch back to Turfman before making comments like this.
Just when they think they have all the answers, I come and change all the questions.
What if you tried to answer the question as it was asked - not what is his favorite song, but what's the best song of his mind? What song gives us the best glimpse into the mind of the man, the dark twisty stuff, the subconscious workings of an aging rock-n-roll legend?

Never separate the life you live from the words you speak. - Paul Wellstone

And now in Zanzibar a shootin' star was ridin' in a side car hummin' a lunar tune
Yes, and the avatar said blow the bar but first remove the cookie jar we're gonna teach those boys to laugh too soon

And some kidnapped handicap was complainin' that he caught the clap from some mousetrap he bought last night,

Well I unsnapped his skull cap and between his ears I saw
a gap but figured he'd be all right

Never separate the life you live from the words you speak. - Paul Wellstone

I've done my best to live the right way
I get up every morning and go to work each day
But your eyes go blind and your blood runs cold
Sometimes I feel so weak I just want to explode
Explode and tear this whole town apart
Take a knife and cut this pain from my heart
Find somebody itching for something to start

Woke up this morning MY house was cold

"Well there's just a spark of a campfire left burnin'
Two kids in a sleeping bag beside
Reach 'neath your shirt, put my hands across your belly and feel
Another one kickin' inside
And I ain't gonna fuck it up this time...."

Yeah,  It's me.

"Remember when you ran away and I got on my knees and begged you not to
leave because I'd go berserk?? Well...
You left me anyhow and then the days got worse and worse and now you see
I've gone completely out of my mind.. And..
They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa
To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!!!"
