Water in the basement

Waiting for the remnants of Debby to roll over us this weekend.

We've gotten so much rain this summer it actually looks like we still have a lawn.

It is mostly weeds. But it is green.

Make sure the beds around the house are all slanted away from the house that way ground water runs away from the basement.

Make sure all cracks in the basement walls are repaired and filled in.

Are your downspouts for the current gutters sending the water away from the basement.

All of the above are fairy quick and easy fixes.

If those do not do the trick you made need french drains and a sump pump.

The gutter over the front porch overflows in heavy rain. I'm pretty sure that is the problem. I've replacing thems with larger gutters.

All the down spouts flow into PVC pipes, that route the water to the back (downhill) side of the house.

In a different, storm related topic, a big branch fell in the woods. It actually broke a year ago, but has been stuck at the top of the tree. I've been calling it a widow maker and it certainly would have done the job.

Had almost 10 inches of rain here from TS Debby.  My side yard is still draining 2 1/2 days later.  River across the road to our community is the highest and fastest flowing I have ever seen it.
