Voters pick a boss of a name for the 2019 Grand Illumination tree

CHARLOTTESVILLE (WINA) – After nearly two weeks of online voting at the 2019 Charlottesville Grand Illumination Facebook page, city organizer Joe Rice announced the winner on “Morning News” is… Spruce Springsteen. With about 1000 people voting, Spruce Springsteen got the most votes — 379. It fairly easily beat out Fir Elton John which got 276.

Other vote getters were Billy Ray Cyprus with 223, Barky McTreeFace with 133, Piney Dancer with 104, Chris Pine with 13, and Firbert with 12. The tree stands right now at the new Grand Illumination location on the Mall in front of City Hall, where the December 6 events occur at the Sprint Pavilion. The festivities get underway at 4:30, and you will be Blinded by the Light of the 20,000 lights on Spruce Springsteen at 7:15.
