U2 were on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Joshua Tree. And in between expressing outrage over the Manchester bombing and performing a classic song, the band revealed some advice they received from one of their fellow rock legends. Apparently, after the band had a bit of wine with Bruce Springsteen, The Boss shared a bit of career advice for the stadium-filling legacy act.

“Don’t do television,” Bono whispered and then took a moment to soak in the absurdity of delivering this line to a late-night host.

Springsteen’s reasoning for the ban on television appearances is sound, literally.

“I asked him why and he said ‘Don’t give other people the ability to turn you up or down, ‘” Bono shared. “They could be making a cup of coffee and you’re out there telling your story.”

In their defense, U2 only kind of went against Bruce’s advice. The appearance on Kimmel is their only televised appearance for this tour. And they had a good reason, they wanted to share the first single from their long-awaited Songs Of Experience album “The Little Things That Give You Away.” Unfortunately, that video has yet to be uploaded, so we’ll just have to leave you with one of the greatest rock songs in the history of the genre.
