I always tought of it as just the butt of a cigarette instead of a actuall cigarette.

As a image of desperation, picking up left over cigarette butts on streetcorners and saving them in the sleepingbag for when he wants a smoke.

smoking's bad for you. Bad boy Bruce for promoting smoking.
