And why shoulden?t he be worthy ???
Relaxing And drinking Coffee
Can you imagine a German candidate coming to the US to give a campaign speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, or the Statue of Libery? Hardly appropriate. They have their own places. We've got ours. We're talking about a campaign speech. This is not a visit, as a head of state, to the German people. This is a fucking campaign stop. I'd be pissed if I was Merkel too. Get the hell off of our landmarks.

A TV news report saying pressure was being put on Obama from several areas, so he compromised on another spot and this article:

IMO, both Presidents Kennedy (who Obama is trying to be like) and Reagan gave very important speeches there. Obama is just giving a campaign speech and wanted to give it in front of the historic Brandenburg Gate to look presidential and for a cheap self-serving photo op.

I agree, we would not want you to have yet another reason to hate yourself. However, I suppose Krauthammer himself is ok with his name as well as his accomplishments/career.

WTF is this we? You have and will always be a consenus of one. Obviously my attept a weak humor (Brandenburg Gate (Germany) the twat having the word Kraut in his name) is always lost on your lack of "fill in the blank"

Ummm....who really cares? And not to give you too much of my time, but isn't this nation made up of Germans, Irish, Poles, etc etc etc...my great-grandfather was born in Germany and fought for the US when he was 17...a landmark is a landmark: a place where great deeds are honored and hopefully great people are able to advance great causes at those locations. Do you think Lincoln would care if a Sudanese official spoke at his monument about the horrors that must be stopped in Darfur? lol...if you care about where someone is speaking to citizens of the world, you have to much time on your hands.

I'm surprised Julius put the Statue of Liberty in there. Does he know it was a gift from . . . France?
"What is she, the governor of Guam?"

I care, and yes Abe would roll over in his grave because it is stupid.
Just because using a photo op in front of a well known monument doesn't lend credence to the content of the speech. It is a waste of resources - just give the speech in your own backyard. It reminds me of the American flag bullshit all over again. One candidate speaks with an American flag in the background, then the next one with 2 bigger American flags, then the next one with a dozen ... it is just absurd. Next think you know we will be playing where in the world is Matt Lauer with Obama just so he can show he left US soil - well guess what just because he orders a Big Mac in Germany doesn't mean he has foreign policy experience.
I care. I don't want our landmarks, to become stumping podiums for candidates of other countries. And they won't. These places belong to all Americans, and are, and should be, above politics. I'm glad Merkel sees Brandenburg the same way. I have no problem with a head of state making a speech at one of these places in the course of an official state visit - but for a candidate to use it for his/her own political gain, as Obama was attempting to do in Germay, is pretty classless.

Really Mr Wizard? Tell me another story. Sure, it was a gift. And it belongs to our people. And shouldn't be used as a political prop for a candidate running for office in another country.

Wait, are we talking about John McBush or Obama? I think this is up to the Germans to decide...not us...last time I checked, we don't live there. So isn't it a bit hypocritical for people (who don't live in Germany, for example) to say he shouldn't speak in certain places in other countries because he isn't running there...seems, some here want their cake, and to eat it too...and not to share with others! lol

My apologies, didn't know you were her spokesman. I think this is more about Obama bashing than your actual care for the sanctity of Europe's monuments. Just say you don't like Obama rather than using some non-story to find a reason to bash him...you don't agree with his ethics, his political background, his positions on certain agendas all work. "OMG! He's treading on a sacred German ground! What am I to do???" does not. I'm all for political discussion, where a politician is speaking on another continent does not qualify.

I didn't start the thread, someone else did.
I just simply voiced that I care and I think it is out of line.
It isn't a non-story because the fucking media is following Osama Obama like he is the messiah.

This is great. The McCain camp calls out Obama for not visiting Iraq. So, when Obama does go to Iraq, conservatives complain about the media covering Obama's trip. grin
