We've talked about it in the past. Now let's do it.

Let's name the Top 5 bootlegs for each tour, with as many as 5 more suggestions. The sound has to be pretty damn good for a boot to make the list, but sound quality is not the sole criteria. We'll weigh in the performance (i.e., the energy level, the setting, the setlist, etc.) because that matters, too. Otherwise we'd all be listening to the Atlanta Rising boot, which won't even make the list.

I'll keep a running list here at the top of what the consensus seems to be for each tour. It will change, of course.
Anybody who wants other ideas can probably dig through this thread someday for suggestions that fell short. There are going to be a lot of excellent boots that don't make the list.
So let's get started.

This is the so-called 'Chicken Scratch' tour thread, covering the dates 1976-08-01 to 1977-03-25.

1976-10-27 Spectrum (unbooted)
1976-10-30 New York (Fanatic Records version)
1976-11-04 New York (Streak Of Light Through The Tunnel)
1977-02-13 Toronto (No Trouble In Receiver, Ev2)
1977-02-22 Milwaukee (Return to the Bomb Scare, Ev2)
1977-03-04 Jacksonville (Talk It In Our Hearts, Ev2)
1977-03-13 Towson State University (?)
1977-03-19 Lewiston, ME (Joe Maloney tape)
1977-03-23 Boston (Incident In Boston, Ev2)
1977-03-24 Boston (Running into the Darkness)
1977-03-25 Boston (Forced To Confess)

We need more than 5 to vote on:

1977-03-19 Lewiston, ME (Joe Maloney tape)
1977-03-24 Boston (Running into Darkness)

And I know I'm probably in a minority on this, but I prefer From the Dark Heart of a Dream and even Forced to Confess to Stranded in the Park. I suspect how individuals feel on this is due to their personal sensibilities, equipment, room, and how they listen (headphones, speakers, etc.)

I don't think so. Some of the masters came out last year, I think, but even though a vast upgrade over the previouly circulating versions, these are more or less rehearsal shows, at least in my opinion, and not what I'd really call "spirited", especially knowing the awesome shows from 1977.

There's a nice soundboard from Philly, October 27, 1976.

We sit here stranded, though we're all doin' our best to deny it

my copy of Forced to Confess broke down. I replaced it with a copy of Stranded in the Park, because everybody raved about that one. Gave it a listen, threw it out and burned a new copy of Forced to Confess
This isn?t a Kivak/Fanatic remaster, but since your looking for suggestions:

1976-10-27 Spectrum (Home of the 76ers) Unfortunately, my organization is in rather chaotic condition so I couldn?t find this to check it out again and it?s been awhile since I listened to it. My memory is great performance (almost all of them were this tour - Bruce and the band were telling themselves each night that, yes, we are the greatest live band in the world) and good but not great recording.

Buckshot is right on about the Boston Music Hall stand. The only stands that possibly compare are Passaic in September 1978, Nassau in December 1980, and LA in 1981.
