it's because I did but not on purpose. I was DLing some shows from DIME a few days ago when I received a warning that one of my DLs may contain a virus and DIME would be deleting the files from the tracker. That is the first time I ever received a notice like that either on JL or /DIME in over 20 years.

I was able to DL the show and figured it was from other seeders not the infected culprit. However at about the same time my laptop started acting up. It appeared to be freezing and the mouse would stick on certain windows. It appeared to be running slow. I deleted the files and ran a quick scan, then I decided to run a full scan. The full scan took 4 days, if you saw me here, it was when I was able to use Beth's PC.

Beth remembered that I had a new laptop I never set up so I got that out and started adding programs to it. I came back to my original laptop earlier today when the full scan finished with no viruses detected. WTH!!!

I'm sitting there sort of flummoxed and I was flipping the mouse from hand to hand. That's when I noticed the blue light on the bottom of the mouse was going on and off.

I had no infection... all I needed was a new mouse.

I hope this lesson can help someone else who's as dopey as me. lol

The point I was trying to make is that old PCs run slow. Software/Windows has bloated, and teh hardware is old. I have a laptop here in NJ that I bought in 2010 with Windows 7, since updated to Windows 10. Still, slow as molasses for most tasks other than web browsing.

Yeah. It is the software which Microsoft arguably slows down after so long and also the intel core chips - a lot has changed in the past ten years. A new computer now has so much processing power it is crazy to think about.

No one has more updated PCs than me. 2 here in NJ and 2 in Fla. I update every piece of software every two weeks with programs that hunt for updates. But the Registry gets bloated, hardware gets old, they can't keep up. That 12 yr old laptop is maxed out at 8GB of memory. This desktop I'm on has 32GB of memory, upgradeable to 64GB. It's no comparison. And yeah, the processor chips these days are amazing. I can't wait to get back to Fla where my two newest PCs are, lol.
