Pretty slippery slope...Fed Govt is against it, as is the international community and we signed that agreement. However man commits rape and murder of two teens in Texas and didn't say he was a Mexican national until 10 years after his arrest.

I don't agree with Texas defying international law which Washington signed onto...I think he should get the old 23 hrs in solitary, 1 hr for exercise and meals.

While I am not in support of the death penalty I do believe that they should either use it or lose it if it is to remain a law of the land. Too many convicted death row inmates are living off of baseless appeals.

This makes no sense. You don't support the death penalty, but you'll capitulate your beliefs if they'll just use the death penalty more quickly and avoid the wasteful appeals process, when the only problem is that the inmates sit on death row in a state that resembles life - which is what you want them to do in the first place, i.e. to live. Living off baseless appeals is what is keeping them alive - but that's a bad thing because you're for, no wait, you're against the death penalty. You've got me really confused.

Yep the world is a confusing place.

The DP is the law. So use it or lose it. Governors won't execute people on death row because of the political out cry not. So clean out death row or reduce their sentences to life in prison and abolish the DP.

But that's not what you said. You said you don't support it. I really don't think you've put a lot of thought into the question of the death penalty. If you support it, fine. We disagree. But you say in one breath that you don't support it, and then flippantly say, basically, "let's fry 'em and get 'em off death row because it's the law ".

The death penalty is revenge, pure and simple. It does not deter anything or anyone. It's racially biased in its use. And puts the work of God in man's hands. Vengence is mine.
I hear what you are saying.

What I am saying is that I respect the law of the land even if I morally oppose it.

So why have a law and not use it? If you are not going to use it then do away with it.

Part of the law is the appeals process!! It seems that you're forgetting about that part, and you just want to apply the easiest.

I've got no problem with respecting the law. I respect laws I'm morally opposed to as well. But I'm not going to encourage you to burn flags, kill babies in their 7th month, or raise my taxes in the middle of a weak economy. Nor would I ever encourage you to employ the death penalty, no matter how broken the appeals system is.

Just to use another emotional example. Per your statement above do you agree with what people who are opposed to abortion (Roe vs. Wade) and how they have bombed clinics, the fed gov has with held funding for clinics and education?
