ONE of the world’s greatest sax players Eddie Mannion, who has played with supergroups that include Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, will perform at Dublin’s Workman’s Club next Friday night at the Light of Day concert to raise funds for research into Parkinson’s disease and related illnesses.

Eddie, an original member of Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, The Miami Horns and Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul, has been a touring member of the horn section for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Eddie first toured with Springsteen in August 1976 during the Born To Run Tour. He played sax with Bruce Springsteen on Wrecking Ball, High Hopes and Tunnel of Love Tour 1988. He also did the Seeger Sessions with Springsteen at The Point.

Between 1991 and 1994, Mannion was also a full-time member of The Robert Cray Band and played alongside B.B. King, Albert Collins and John Lee Hooker.

Together with trumpet player Mark Pender, they played and arranged horns on the Grammy-nominated Cray album, Shame + A Sin.

Eddie has just released a hugely anticipated new album, Nightlife, and will perform several tracks from it at Friday night’s show, which also features Vini Lopez, Jeffrey Gaines, Joe D’Urso, Rob Dye, plus great local artists.
