Last night I was at the pancake house across the street from the show. (I had buckwheat and my daughter had strawberry.) Ryan Adams buses were in front of the venue and they looked exactly like Steve Earle's buses.
Eating healthy is great and all that but buckwheat pancakes have really got to be bad, no?
Wow, Buckwheat does have the Ryan bedhead look down, of course, Smokey will accuse Ryan of stealing Buckwheat's hairstyle.

i listened to Jerusalem and Easy Tiger back-to-back Sunday, and thank God only his buses are the same.
The two recent shows at Red Rocks were pretty special, check out the set list for last night' show. Can't wait for the boot.

Special? Like short school bus special?
19 songs? That woulda taken what, about an hour?
Ryan Adams is playing at a high school auditorium here in the "Rock & Roll Capital"... that's one step above the HOB Cambridge Room, a closet which recently featured Jessie Malin.
These guys make Southside's annual appearance at the Rib Cook Off look respectable.

He plays some decent sized places, too, but even in Portland, where his album was #1 in the local shops, he played a 1000 seater. Easy Tiger's sales are at 117,000 - not a flop by any means in today's market, but with all the press he got this time around, it does seem like we all got the memo and thanks, but no.
But hey, what do I know - fifteen years into his career and he's the future of Rock Music and the Artist of the Decade, right?

Lakewood Civic Auditorium is in a high school?
He's been playing good size theaters everywhere.
Hater.

I think his "anonymous" career is the best way to go. Put out albums to a solid fan base. Play 1,000 - 2,000 seat theaters at 75-90 bucks a seat a few times a week. Make a good living under the radar.
Look, I'm not foaming at the mouth (or any other orifice) crazy in love with the guy. I like the current stuff and the current acoustic tour. If he puts out more of that punk crap I won't listen. If he continues what he's doing I will. He's just one component in a busy listening schedule. The End.

Except that he charges $25-35, even when he plays 100-200 seat theaters.
I was told the Louisville show I didn't go to was $75 - $90 in a 1,700 seat space.
No, it wasn't. I looked into buying tickets for that show and they were $25. I payed $35 in Chicago, and I just bought tickets for St Louis for $25. Maybe your friend wanted to pocket the difference.
On a related note, I continue to think it's ridiculous that Springsteen tickets cost as much as they do.

So the argument is that if an artist sells only 100.000 or only plays 1000 seaters, he/she can't be any good?
Yes, we're saying you have to sell a million to be considered good. That's it exactly.
Thanks for stopping by.

He actually thinks the ticket prices are too low - considering that he's seen the same 200 doofuses up front at every show for the last 5 tours - so he keeps raising them.
Then there's the matter of Landau's million dollar a year pate habit needing financed.
You know, if he came out with a reasonable explanation like that, I wouldn't criticize him.
It's not like he's slumming. In MI he plays the State Theater in Kalamazoo (cap: 1,500+) and the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor (cap:1,700). Both are very nice venues. $32 floor, $25 balcony. In Toronto, he plays Massey Hall. 'Nuf said.
Bruce played theatres in 78, even though his album was huge and he could sell out MSG three times.
But he's not scheduled to play the University of Iowa student union lounge or a Cleveland suburban high school 10 years into his career.
Although personally, I would prefer any band I want to go see playing small dumps or theatres instead of sheds or McArenas.
And Bruce was playing arenas by 78... if the area had one. 75-76 was theatres.

Shit, ken. Now I've got some strange mental picture of Adams playing the McArena. Ehhhh, McArena! Form a line down the aisle...
Agree btw - St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit was the best for catching new bands. What a dump.
Bruce played the Spectrum two nights in a row in 1976. Of course, that was Philly.

Only because Landau bamboozled him with, "As a fan, would you rather be in the last row of the Spectrum, or not in The Tower at all?"
Of course there was the big black curtain blocking the sides and the back of the stage, so figure about 65% of the actual capacity was used.
I was there both nights. They always left the sections directly on the side empty, even at the Darkness shows and a couple times I made my way down there and stood about ten feet from Clarence's side of the stage.
He's playing an 1100 seater in Auckland. The show sold out in a day so they added another which went almost as quickly.
WTF else is there to do in Auckland? Watch Peter Jackson shave his feet?
WTF else? SFA else. We go to work, watch tv and shave our feet like the rest of the world.

In keeping with that notion, the near future will see The Cardinals gearing up for a massive fall tour. ?You see, I hate festivals,? Adams says, ?because there are no soundchecks, which is bad for every band. You get a big paycheck but I think it?s a big screw job for the fans. That?s why I?m planning on two sets this fall with two different band situations?acoustic guitars, steel, piano and a little drumset like in the The Grateful Dead Reckoning-style for a 28 song set?and then a second electric set that sounds almost like a whole side of Cold Roses that we?ve never played, and even stuff from the Gold and Love Is Hell eras that no one has ever heard. So, I have a feeling by the time autumn rolls around, The Cardinals might be opening for The Cardinals with two different vibes in one night. I think of how much ground we could cover. It would be really fun and a bit of a challenge, which is something I pride myself on.?
Did I mention I've got 2nd row for Cardiff in Nov?

Great news; thanks for posting! Now I'm even more excited that he's playing so many shows in my vicinity.
There are lot's of good sounding shows on the archive. I guess the electric thing didn't last for more than a couple shows. They are back to playing acoustic again.
Bgboss, you need to get the lingo down. Red Cave (electric) or Blue Cave (acoustic) is what you should be using.
Sorry, just doing my job.

Don't embarrass me in front of Smokeyjoe.
I listened to the Santa Cruz show today. The build up at the end of I Taught Myself How To Grow Old is excellent.
The Austin show is really good too.

Santa Cruz is great, and you hit the nail right on the head with the segue into I taught myself.
I'm waiting for the Red Rocks, second night, to show up. I heard the playing was intense and it could be the best red cave boot from the tour.
