Does anyone know the specific shows in 84 where Roy started including the synthesizer intro to Racing, and when Bruce added the spoken intro to that?  And when was the debut of the spoken coda during the piano outro?  Unless I missed it, it is not noted in Brucebase.

I know the synth intro was not included in the NJ shows, but it was part of Racing in Hartford on 9/7. However, I don't know if debuted in Landover 8/26 or 8/28, or perhaps in Worcester on 9/4.

As far as the synth with the spoken intro, I know it was included in LA on 10/28.  I suspect, but don't know for sure, that was the first time. Only the synth intro was played at the Oakland 10/21 show and the 10/26 LA show; neither has the spoken intro.  And I suspect there was no spoken intro between Philly and LA, so maybe 10/28 was the first time...

And then there's the coda/spoken bit in the middle of the piano outro... It's not part of 10/28, but it was part of Racing on 10/31. The question then is was it done on 10/29? Can't find that show at the moment...

If anyone can confirm these and then perhaps have it included in Brucebase, that would be great!!

Gave a look through my collection.

Racing was not played on 8/28, it was however played on 8/26 and 8/29.

8/29/84 in Largo is the earliest appearance of the synth intro. All shows before that (at least, those that I have copies of currently), just had the normal piano intro.

Every show from 8/29 onward had the synth intro. Up through 10/26 in LA it was the same instrumental intro. Which funnily enough is the first show that Brucebase mentions having the intro.

10/28 appears to be the first instance of the intro story about the car. As well as the last with the normal instrumental coda.

The outro story would first appear the next night, 10/29. Pretty sure this continues on through the rest of 1984 (including my personal favorite, 11/19 in KC).

Brucebase has the outro story listed for 10/29, however it is slightly confusing as it is grouped with the intro story without a clear divider.

I hope this helps

Thanks all! Would be good if this got included in brucebase. I certainly recall a huge shockwave when Rosy was dropped from the set and the show concluded with the somber Racing in the Street. Probably the biggest change in his live shows since Max and Roy joined the band. So seems like it is worth a mention.

I never saw a show that ended in Racing, but I can imagine the dumbfounded feeling of the audience, esp the regulars, when they closed with that rather than Rosy.  I appreciate Racing so much more now than I did back then as a 16 year old. So now I feel like it would be a perfect ending to a show. I'm probably in the minority who loved when he closed out the 92 encores with My Beautiful Reward.

Anyone at the Tacoma night 2 show or those LA shows, or the late 84, early 85 gigs care to share thoughts on it?
