First saw the emergence of a really poor chorus wasting what could have been a classic song on Magic's 'I'll Work for Your Love'. Great song, great lyrics wasted by a run-of-the-mill chorus that adds absolutely nothing to the song.

On the new album this happens again with 'Queen of the Supermarket' Although the latter verses are nothing to write home about (I felt the first verse was actually ok) the melody is very nice and could have been a great song with the right lyrics. Again, wasted by a very poor chorus.

So what is going on? By writing the music and verses the hard work is done, so why waste it by producing choruses that Billy Joel or Elton John would consider brilliant?

I wouldn't consider Blinded by the Light a repetative chorus.
He does sing the phrase twice, but not consecutively and not the same.
Also, the chorus is only in there three times and the third time it is different.

What about Long Time Comin'?

Or Blinded By The Light?
Think that "Ooh, ooh got a crush on you" is weaker than "I'm a Rocker" and is probably a more traditional chorus song.

What about the "Li,li,li,li", whistling and "ooh, ooh, oohing" to close out songs

Fair point (although don't agree with them all). Think what I should have added was that I think the choruses seem out of place. All the ones listed above seem to be part of the song. With 'I'll Work For Your Love' especially it seems to be tagged on - a last minute addition. A few years ago Paul Simon mentioned that he wrote the last verse of 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' quite a while after the other verses - you can tell.

And Billy Joel is ok btw. Especially his first three or four albums! smirk

How about Rockaway the Days? The chorus seems to have nothing to do with the song.

Though in that case, I would contend that the verses are the weak link because the chorus and the music go together and are pretty catchy. But there are some god awful forced rhyming schemes, interesting pronunciations and just plain stupidity in the verses.

I always liked the song as long as I remember to shut my brain off for it.
