In all honesty, a separate political forum would be a good idea. Not just one thread (because there are so many different things going on during the election), but an entirely new forum. There's a second chance now to do it right, so create the forum and let the political junkies run amok there.

This keeps regular Off-Topic unsullied and allows those of us who want to yell at each other about politics the opportunity to do so without disturbing the neighbors.
Vive Le Resistance!
There is obviously an interest in politics. A political forum would allow free expression of political opinions and multiple threads without cluttering OT. Also, those who are not interested will not be...um...disturbed.

General can be for stalking, OT can be for Britney and Lindsay and the political forum can be for commies and fucktards. Everyone wins.

Well the only offers I received were a badly worn pair of lifts, some yeast residue, 10 lbs of lime, some belly-button lint, a few bruised oranges, a busted snare head, a pack of "While You Were Out" messages pads, a few Air Supply CD's, a dog-earred copy of the 2/10/97 Time magazine, some Toots boots and a bowl of baked beans. So I voted with my gut knowing full well I may never see some on my best SPL buddies again.
yes
I love those 10 pages threads about how pelosi/bush/clinton/JFK/lincoln continues to dazzle

...to have just one thing, just one thing in your whole life that you do that makes you proud of yourself, I don't think that's too much for anybody to ask...

Gonna be a very empty and shortlived forum then.
Another good reason for a political forum is so whiney bitches like you can shut the fuck up about the demise of the SPL.

Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.

Not much to expand, really. If you look at Greasy Lake, they've got a forum for everything. I was thinking that people would hole up in their forum of main intersest and create a seperate sub-culture there. Which of course is fine, but I think we could lose diversity and interaction across geography, culture and politics. That's one of the things I like about this place.

And I guess off-topic would be harder to modeate. Almost every topic can potentially be or turn political in nature.

I voted 'no', by the way, but it was mainly because I couldn't see the results without voting. I really have no idea. I was one of the people begging for a political forum a couple of years ago, but the political nutheads seems to have calmed down over the last one or two years and things seems fine now, if you ask me.
There should be a Politics forum and a Sports forum. Both those subjects are/will be posted about a LOT, with new threads for seemingly everything. And yes, one can say that by the same token we should have separate forums for everything from food to tv and movies, but really, politics and sports are the top two many-multiple-threads subjects.
