01/13/1970: When Boz Scaggs gets sick and cancels his headlining gig at The Matrix in San Francisco, Steel Mill is promoted from opener to headliner. The band plays for more than an hour to a small crowd that includes journalist Philip Elwood, who was expecting to see and review Boz Scaggs. Needing to turn in something, he reviews Steel Mill instead and writes that he has “never been so overwhelmed by a totally unknown talent.” You can hear the groovy, very 70’s set here:
01/13/1985: The Born in the U.S.A. Tour makes a stop at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, South Carolina for one night only.
01/13/2014: Bruce sits down for an interview on NPR with Ann Powers.
After the interview, Bruce and the E Street Band (+Tom Morello, -Steve Van Zandt) rehearse for their appearance the next day on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
