How hard can it be to plan ahead and have a couple of these bad boys in the can and at the ready for emergencies and times like this?  Do they really need a logistics officer with a staff as small as theirs?

Unlike Winterland, Nugs didn't say anything about "it will be worth the wait." As you said Oats, it's not that difficult to have a couple in the can, especially if it's a show from after the Rising tour.  Plus one would think by this point they would have done the transferring of any of the professionally recorded ones from the earlier tours so it's just a matter of a final mix. And where are the other shows from the master tapes given to them by the soundman?

I think there's issues for any shows prior to the BTR tour. There's never been any pre-BTR show released. The earliest was 1975-10-18. Either they don't exist, or there's contractual problems with either former band members or management.

Yeah, it has to be something like that. There has been very little official material from the early days since Tracks. My guess would be Mike Appel.

I seriously doubt it.  Bruce bought his entire catalog back from Mike Appel.  Also I don't think Bruce would have a problem giving a normal cut to any of the band members no longer with him.  After all, Davy and Vinny were included in the R&R HOF Inductions.  I'm pretty sure none of them would turn down some found money.  Everyone can use some extra cash.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's the tapes or lack of them.  Either they were not taped and if they were... the tapes were not maintained or stored properly.  Otherwise why would they need the "Front of House mix tapes recorded by Chas Gerber" as described by Erik Flannigan in the 1977 releases.

I think the issue is that January sneaks up on them every year right after the holidays

That darn 'January'... it zigs, it zags all over the calendar, never staying with one month.  It's always on the run, playing the field and fooling all the Gregorians.

Bruce & Co has been collecting pre-E Street material for years from traders. That's what I have heard from a close source.  It shouldn't be because of lack of material. They have used the material from traders with the releases that needs patching.

They will never use inferior audience tapes.  You can take that to the bank.
