Tom Morello recruits Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder for a cover of AC/DC’s "Highway to Hell," from new LP 'The Atlas Underground Fire.'

“Our version of ‘Highway to Hell’ pays homage to AC/DC but with Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder, brings this legendary song into the future,” Morello said in a statement. “One of the greatest rock & roll songs of all time sung by two of the greatest rock & roll singers of all time. And then I drop a shredding guitar solo. Thank you and good night.”

Prior to the studio take, the trio previously linked up to perform the AC/DC classic at a Springsteen and the E Street Band concert in Melbourne, Australia, in February 2014; the Pearl Jam singer made a surprise appearance onstage during the show, which took place during the period Morello was serving as a temporary E Streeter on tour while Stevie Van Zandt filmed his TV series Lilyhammer.

I agree but you have to realize we're die hard fans and have heard the Australian Version with the three of them before and we've also heard it three times without Eddie.   But the hundreds of thousands of Eddie Vedder fans along with Tom's fans and the Springsteen casual fan.  This will be something new to them.

Everyone wants to listen or see their favorite musicians or bands and with something new... well that's an added bonus.

I received a JL notification today regarding a comp of rare Bruce songs  put together by a friend of mine, Chris, back in 1999.  I listened to it and was I in a good mood, lol.  I was  singing and feebly dancing around the house.  The dogs thought I was crazy.  I can't wait until we knock back these variants.  I need to see a show.

I don’t think it’s pointless.  Not every cover song is meant to have deep meaning or add something revolutionary to an artist’s catalog.  Sometimes it’s just friends having fun.  It’s a big deal for Morello and Vedder. They get to record with an ‘idol’, one of their idols.  They are also doing a tribute.  (See Tenacious D 😁).

At this stage in Bruce’s career and my life, I don’t know which I will be happier with - another ‘new album’, especially if it contains re-recordings of 50 year old songs (that could be a major plus or minus) or the No Nukes video.  One will be legendary while the other contemporary.
It’s that Born To Run at 48 syndrome.  If Wendy and I haven’t found that place and still don’t know when, my bones are telling me just check the oil in the hog, look at senior communities, and settle somewhere where I don’t have to cook every day.  Oh, and make sure the oldies they play are relevant to my stage of life.  AC/DC, ‘You Shook Me All Night Long”.  Perfect for the socials and equally applicable for the evening bed checks.  “Are you alive out there?” Yes Bruce, just not standing 3 hours in the pit.

🤔🤔🤔

I guess what I mean is that my expectations for a collaboration between some of my favorite artists are rather high. (I am of the age where I grew up on Pearl Jam and Rage Against the Machine) For the first two minutes and thirty seconds it feels like old people doing karaoke. At the end there is a little Morello flavor to it but it feels like a missed opportunity considering the talent involved.

Just my opinion of course. Again, its not bad but I just wish there was more.

Just as a side note/non sequitur... I still think the E-Street band absolutely nailed PJ's Better Man. I really think Pearl Jam and the E-Street band is a collaboration that needs to happen...
