It's been a long time since I wrote in this forum, but I was curious to see what other people thought of the new album....

Personally, I'm very disappointed, been a fan since I was 6 years old and this is the first time that I really couldn't care less about listening to his new release. Most of the songs sound like album fillers to me and the ones that I'd consider OK (Magic, I'll work for your love) are just that and nothing more. I am relieved that he's playing plenty of old stuff at the shows.
But that is just my opinion, pleased to see most of you appear to be enjoyig it.

cheers

His 10th best album, you're having a laugh

Nebraska gets lots of indy cred, which is justified, but it's still an album that I appreciate more in theory than in practice. The albums I listed above it are the ones I'm more apt to take off the shelf and play, which is why I ranked them the way I did.
I ussualy prefer the more lo-fi stuff, but I'm enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would.

Based on the ones I have listened to and loved the most this is probably how I'd rate the albums.

1. Nebraska
2. The River
3. Darkness
4. Born to run
5. Ghost of tom Joad
6. Born in the USA
7. Seeger Sessions
8. WIESS
9. Greetings
10. Magic
11. Rising
12. Tunnel of Love
13. Devils & Dust
14. Lucky town
15 Human Touch
The sweetest songs don't last too long on Broken radios.
It's about a middle-aged bank executive that thought it would be a great idea to have a big ass Harley to ride on the weekends. He dies during his test ride. His widow burns the bike to wipe away all memories of him...except the memories of his investments.

I don't see how Bruce could make it any clearer. Don't you people read the lyric sheet?

Stipped of my rand.
I think Magic is a pretty good album, probably as good as we'll get now.

I'd give it 4.5 for the content and 3 for production.

I haven't heard anyone else mention much about the production yet, but I'm quite disappointed. It all sounds a bit muddy to me, no separation between the instruments. You can't pick out the band members individually very well as you could in prevous albums. I wonder if that is because tha band is bigger and hence more going on or if it relates to the fact that they're not live recordings (I understand that due to other commitments some recorded their bits on weekdays and others at weekends).
Magic gets better on every hearing. Standout tracks are: Radio Nowhere, You'll be comin' down, Magic and Girls in their summer clothes. It debuted at No1 in the UK album charts, proving that Bruce is still as popular as ever. I look forward to seeing a show next year as I missed out on a ticket this time. He never lets us down with the quality of his songs, and the performances are always top rate. Its a fine production since he and the E Street Band were last recording together for The Rising.
Bruce fan for well over 20 years. Laid back fun loving naturist guy.
