considering buying a Macintosh to replace PC. The Mac links appear to have disappeared on the new forum.
Any suggestions or links to sites would be appreciated on the following:

1. Newsserver: currently using GigaNews. Presume this works on Mac seamlessly?

2. Software Download: currently using Newsreactor. What works best on Mac?

3. Newsgroup: ABMS. No issues on Mac, I assume.

4. Repair: MacPar?

5. Decoding: currently use FLAC. What Mac software is recommended for audio and dvd files?

6. Burning software: Again, what Mac software works best for burning cdr audio and/or dvd?

any suggestions would be appreciated?

Original Post
i agree with the macpar deluxe, xact, and unison recommendations.

i use roxio toast to burn dvds and cds. it's not free, but it is pretty good, and works on ISO files, VIDEO_TS folders, pretty much anything.

for EAC-like ripping (EAC doesn't exist on the mac), try Max

How to turn DVD decrypter split filer into one .iso file:

open "terminal" (it's in your "utilities" folder)
type cd nameofdirectory (this switches you to the directory where the split files are located)
type cd nameoffolder (this switches you to the folder the files are in)
type cat nameoffile.I0* > nameoffile.iso (e.g. bruceconcert.I0* > bruceconcert.iso)
and after a while you will have an .iso file

Warning: no spaces are allowed in any names

Can anyone a good MAC OS X programme to create rar files? Preferably freeware.

Regarding MACPar deluxe: somehow I always end up wit the Dutch version, no matter where I download from (even trying the link above). It makes things a bit more complicated than necessary. Thus, can anyone point me to an English version?

Thanks

I'm a mac newbie blush

I have a question: what software do you use to print CD/DVD covers? When I had my old PC I worked with CoverXP and UndercoverXP, but there isn't a mac version of this software.

Thanks in advance,

Rosa

Another question from a Mac newbie blush : I want to rip an original boot and upload it to Jungleland. Is Max the best program to rip CDs (brianr said that it's similar to EAC)? If I rip a boot with Max and upload/post it, am I doing something wrong?

TIA,

Rosa

Kevin, I don't know. I haven't tried Max yet...I'll take a look at XLD, thanks for the tip.

BTW, I'll post the MSG boot with my old PC and EAC.

You're right smile

I've just ripped a CD with XLD and I've got this log file (looks like an EAC log file):

Is it OK to upload files ripped with this program?

And what program should I use to post to ABMS?

TIA,

Rosa

Another question: is there a good free DVD audio ripper? I'd like to rip the audio from the Paramount and the Houston DVDs to listen to them in the car.

TIA!
