Eagles are the latest musical act to stage a lengthy residency at Sphere Las Vegas, the state-of-the-art facility nestled in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip.

The legendary band‘s run is currently scheduled to run into March 2025, and a recent interview with Vince Gill from American Songwriter found the singer trying to sum up his firsthand experience at Sphere.

ViaAmerican Songwriter:

“The stage is about this big,” Gill says, making a square with his hands. “Then all the stuff goes to the sides and up to the ceiling. The ceiling is 15, 20 times bigger than all of that. It’s staggeringly massive.”

One of the most immersive aspects of Sphere’s setup, as utilized quite effectively by Dead & Company‘s recent run, is how the enveloping video screens can create the illusion that the entire structure is moving:

“I was getting kind of where I felt like I was going to fall over because things are tilted, and you think you’re moving, but you’re not,” Gill told American Songwriter. “It’s a trip. It’s the most people I’ve ever been ignored by when I’m playing. You’re playing, and they’re all staring at all the stuff on the ceiling. They’re not paying any attention to you. It’s kind of fun, really.”

Gill’s reflections make for a pretty good recommendation of taking in one (or more!) of these Sphere shows … the remaining dates:

I dunno.
I saw the Elton John / Ray Cooper, acoustic tour in the late ‘70.  A gorgeous 2 hours. I did not want to see Elton in a stadium dressed as a duck.

The sphere is not for me.  I don’t  want an acid trip, I want to see the musician and hear their music.  If I’d have wanted to see over the top painted faces, I’d go to a drag show. I prefer to see women at the pool at the Y.  Everyone has their preferences.

A circus of a-horror, yeah-yeah, well that's what you are
You made me a life of ashes
I guess I'll just take your glasses”

Growing up my two favourite bands were KISS and Springsteen. I long ago outgrew the former, but as I enter my senior years I am having difficulty reconciling those two extremes. You don't get more down to Earth than Bruce, or more over the top than KISS. It never made sense to me! I too, could not handle a show at the Sphere. I don't want to be distracted from band their live playing.

Never, ever feel a need to explain or justify a guilty pleasure.  😃

- I still want to rock and roll all night, but now I can’t walk away from the price you pay…
