Am I missing something? I just can't get into this one. Listened to the CDs a few times in the car, and watched the DVD. Maybe it was something to do with missing the tour. Either way, can't be doing with the vocal sharing thing that's going on. And what's with the banjo dude?????

I'll give it another couple of plays and then it's on the shelf

Poor man is such a passionate song and by far the best thing to come from, uh, these "sesssions/tour". The New Orleans version is still the best, but I thought the Dublin one got the job done.

I don't know if anyone hear has heard the original by Blind Alfred Reed, but Bruce deserves a lot of credit for rearranging, hell, re-writing the song into a powerhouse.

Love this damn song.
We played the DVD in full 5.1 Surround Sound... fantastic! The family really digs

I agree with whomever said you could hear all 18 or so instruments clearly. It's the best audio mix Bruce has ever done, bar none. The shows seems good enough, but the audio quality is just outstanding.

I'm glad for this DVD.

It ain't no sin to be glad you're alive.

My chief complaint about Dublin is that his vocals are very tired. I've played this for a couple of people who had no clue Bruce went nuts for a little while. "Great music...shitty vocals" is the common response. And please don't get me started on the four screaching women on Open All Night. Pats is not an Andrew Sister, by a long shot.

Amen to that.

I watched a minute and a half of the PBS special (it opens with what I call The Rape of Atlantic City,) grabbed the remote and just punched in a random number to get away. Turned out to be Scrubs, which I HATE, and yet still watched. Just to try to forget that minute and a half...

Since when did the minority become right? 45,000 is a minority of Bruce fans and the majority have given the whole stupid tour/concept/CD/DVD a massive thumbs down.

I guess I was sort of making the point that pretty much nobody is paying any attention to this latest mess, much less buying it.

And that's coming from someone who liked this tour.
I liked the tour...liked the studio cd...and I haven't bought the DVD or CD yet and have no real intention of getting it anytime soon. I think it's interesting from a marketing viewpoint how poorly this release has been been viewed in the eyes of Bruce's biggest fans. The tour absolutely tanked in the U.S., but even I thought it would sell more than nothing the first few weeks that it was in stores. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when the Sony people discussed the first week numbers. Sony should just stop production on the disc and dvd, call it a limited edition release and cut their loses!

I don't think it really hurts Bruce's standing in the general public's eyes since I'm positive that they have no idea the thing is even in stores. I have to assume that the new E Street release will be greeted with open arms by Sony, and their publicity department, and that it will probably open with sales near the 300K mark -- still a few hundred thousand less than the Rising did it's first week, but still acceptable.

Anyone else intrigued by the Dylan '07 3 CD set that's coming out in the fall? I know it's a catalog release and probably another greatest hits for old Bob, but I'm curious to see what Sony puts on the discs...

Mike
Fan input will help shape the songs that will make the cut for "Dylan," a three-disc Bob Dylan retrospective and companion greatest hits disc due Oct. 1 via Columbia.

The larger set will feature 51 songs that will be chosen in part based on "fan lobbying" and votes cast at Dylan07.com, which launched in February. Visitors to the site will also find the record's artwork, a trailer and details on how to contribute photos to a future online Dylan photo album.

The three-disc "Dylan" will be released in standard packaging as well as in a "deluxe" cloth-bound, photo-laden version that includes ample liner notes. The one-disc "best of" version of "Dylan" will feature 18 songs.
It's staggering how these two Sony slaves go about their output. Bob seems more in tune with his fans - even though he's probably put out more crap albums than Bruce has official releases. It's over 15 years since Dylan's Bootleg Series started. Bout time we got the same. Forget the "anniversary" bollocks. No one cares about 30 years since Darkness - in 1978 he was outsold by John Travolta!!!!! And possibly Boney M too!

No, but it's okay, I don't remember specifics, just that vocal he does where he sounds like an endless electric can opener. Thankfully, I don't remember Scrubs either.
I just don't get it!!! The more he releases the better. I loved the tour, saw three shows in germany and Denmark and they where all great.
A lot of changes from the first time around to the second, new versions of old songs. All the things that make it fun to watch Bruce over and over again.

And then the fans are still complaining.... even if you don't like the new versions, try to remember why we still want to se him.

This new cd has a full show which for me is a lot better that Live in New York because it make it easier to relive the hole thing again.

PS. I still hope that he will record every show like Pearl Jam, Genesis....

Yeah? But he released it on BlueRay and not HD-DVD. I still say they are fuckers.
If he wants to impress me, he should DEMAND SONY release his stuff (video) on both formats... then I would say the guy has balls. Until then....

Oh, btw... I am one of the very few this side of the pond that actually really really liked the Sessions stuff. I cant explain why, nor am I going to. I just do. Its "fun" music and maybe I am the only person in North America that realises that this stint was just a creative venture, and not a sign of things to come. Mark my words.

And I am an avid ABBA fan. Proud of it. So, take what I say with a grain of salt.

Online reviews of the Blu-Ray version say that it's a very poor high-def disc, so you're not missing too much.
With the complete lack of promotion for this release, the knowledge that his rabid fan base is internet/bootleg minded, and the fact that his previous live albums post BUSA frenzy haven't sold well, I have to assume that Sony manufactured about 250,000 copies, tops. Worldwide. If that.

Does anyone know how many copies of all those live sets The Grateful Dead actually manufacture? I'm just guessing, but I would say 25,000 of each Dick's Picks and From The Vault and every box set - no promotion needed, as the people who want them are already on board. They must make a mint, considering how many they've released and how long it's been going on.

The video is the worst I've seen on either format, but the Audio is one of the best.

Ok... Im getting the impression that the video sucks on this one (Havent sat down and watched the DVD yet). Im guessing that with the overall design of the packaging (the "old timer look"), they continued this with the look and "feel" of the video? (Eg: use of a "grainy" filter? Something like that?). The camera's used for the filming were Hi-Def so I am a bit surprised to read so many negative comments about the quality of the video on BlueRay. Wow.

But I do agree with the comments on the recording and sound of the recording... this is arguably (technically) the best live recording Bruce has put out.

The music aint bad either...

Yeah the video is too dark and as a result there is a lack of sharpness in the picture also the wider shots where everything should be crisp and clear, are pretty blurry. Also one of the main selling point of the HD formats is the color saturation, which is noticably muted on this disc. (not in a stylisic way)

The darkness is the main problem, its like the iris was closed or the video equivilant. Even when the stage is brightly lit its not bright enough.

Basically my theory is they white balanced to the wrong color (daylight?) and everything came out off and dim. They may have tried to brighten it in post, but when the image isn't there the image isn't there.

If you want to see how a Concert should look in HD check out NIN: Beside you in Time. Like or hate NIN, its just a technically brilliant disc with beautiful audio and video. (And Format Neutral at that, I bought the HD version because HD-DVD Red looked better with the disc art which is also red) The NIN shows are also extremely dark, and their videographer figured it out...

I was referring to HD releases, I don't think Dave Matthews has one out yet. NIN put their own money on the line and slammed both HD formats with the disc with their own studio. It was pretty cool because they put a lot of effort and promotion into it. They didn't just shite out a shoddy too dim one format only POS that noone bought. I mean really, a niche artist hitting a niche format and doing it half assed and terribly? Great way to earn your $100 mil...

Well said. However, the format choice was obviously SONY's... BlueRay is their baby... they bet the PS3 on it and if it fails, SONY will be no more.

But from the comments I am reading, it looks as though they didnt exactly try to show their 'baby' in the best light (lame pun intended)

1. It's Blu-ray.

2. The fact that Sony will somehow perish if Blu-ray fails is preposterous. Remember Betamax? And besides which, most pundits believe Blu-ray has WON the format war against HD DVD.

3. Someone on here, I can't be arsed to scroll through and find who, intimated or even flat-out stated Dublin was a "complete show". Hate to burst your bubble, whoever you may be, but it is not.

Yeah,  It's me.

Sadly, it is more of a complete show, or resembles a complete show, than Live in NYC.

Blu-Ray probrably will win hands down, unfortunatly. HD DVD is a much more refined technology, regardless of the capacity. (HD is testing a triple layer format that will surpass BD's 50 gigs but who knows if that will be formalized)

BD is basically a dvd that is in High Definition, HD DVD includes intresting extras, picture in picture, U-Control, Games etc. BD is testing their Java system to try to even the field but that won't be finalized till at least October and won't work on current BD players. BD basically wasn't ready for prime time when it came out and they are still working on the specs a year and change after its release.

I would kill to have LINY on blu-ray its an extremely sharp picture and well suited to hd regardless of the running order of the setlist.
