"High Hopes" is scheduled for an official release on Jan. 14

Despite a pronounced release date of Jan. 14, Bruce Springsteen's "High Hopes" briefly became available for purchase and download via Amazon on Saturday (Dec. 28).

"High Hopes" could be found on Amazon's mobile website in an MP3 format. It is unclear whether or not this was the website's intention. Since then, the album has become available through file-sharing websites by those who purchased the album through Amazon. Amazon has since rescinded the ability to download the album, which was merely available by buying each song individually.

The album marks the Boss' 18th studio album and first since 2012's "Wrecking Ball." It also marks the first album for the E Street Band, Springsteen's longtime backing band, since the announcement of its induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this April.

In addition to the usual cast of players, "High Hopes" also includes Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello, who appears on eight of the 12 tracks -- including on a new version of "The Ghost of Tom Joad" as a vocalist. Deceased E Street members Clarence Clemons and Danny Federici also make appearances.

This leak doesn't add up....physical product is shipped to a retailers distribution centre less than a week before release, in the world of digital pipelines is there really a requirement to provide this so far out from release....to me this feels like an official leak...call me cynical, however, having worked for a major record company I am aware of some of the 'tricks of the trade'!

Yea I have a huge problem with the so called leak as well...especially after the whole Beyoncé thing a few weeks ago.I would think security on anything would be masive tight so it wouldn't happen.IT JUST DOESN'T JIVE!!!

I think it was exactly what they intended.

Back in the day ....a record company would think nothing of spending £50k on a launch party as the free 'column inches' would far outweigh the cost of the party! So imagine something that costs very little, creates a sense of drama / noise in the Bruce community which flows through to twitter, blogs, etc etc...maybe JLM is catching up with the use of the interweb(!)
