Specifically, they said it's "still in the oven", and that they would "serve it up" as soon as possible.
So I'll guess 11/27/1980 from MSG? Thanksgiving!!
Scitt

Hope they get it done over with these quick, so we don't have to live in fear anymore.
When Backstreets gives a hint, it means something good, like Atlanta 1978 or MSG 6/27/00. Could "still in the oven" be a reference to having to bake the tape before copying it (JEMS does this with their releases)? Will we finally get another one of the soundman's board tapes? Probably not. But at least it won't be another one from 1992 or 93.
@ralfsturm posted:I really think it would be nice if they did put the tapes from 92/93 into the oven too...
For a long, long time...!
could "baking a tape" which is used to repair a tape that's shedding its coating, be a referral to fixing up a Rising show? That would be a nice surprise!

I'm just surmising and not trying to take the wind out of your sales, I don't believe that was the problem with The Rising Tapes. If it was I think we'd have one long before now.
You're correct, Oats - the Rising shows were recording using a new kind of digital technology and they had issues getting the tapes to playback properly. If I understand corectly the problems may not be fixable.
So I'll stick with my original guess of Thanksgiving at MSG.
The exact announcement:
"This Just In: The Live Archive series will not land on First Friday this month as our next release is still in the oven. We promise to serve it up to you as soon as possible."
I'm wondering about the use of the word "land" here. Could it mean the show is from overseas, maybe one of the London shows from the River tour?
I'm thinking to much, just confusing myself... at least I'm going with my strength!

I like the way you think and that's a great show. I certainly would like that pick.
Maybe it's a Wild Turkey... they can fly... unless of course they've drank too much of it.
Just love the speculation on here from you guys
keep em comming
Oats - to paraphrase Monty Python, Wild Turkeys do not fly, so much as plummet.
He has done shows at Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte, 3/29/76 and then the last show on the Fall 1996 leg of the Joad tour on 12/14/96. That's where my money is going. But could be London 6/4/81 that's been baking before it's transferred...

If we get another Joad show I'm gonna be ...
Really? You wouldn't prefer another 96 Joad show over 3/29/76 from the board??
I've had my fill of Tom Joad.
I like Hobbes' Ovens Auditorium speculation. It's a show that's almost completely off the radar historically. From Brucebase:
1976-03-29 - OVENS AUDITORIUM, CHARLOTTE, NC
IT'S MY LIFE / THUNDER ROAD / BORN TO RUN / 4TH OF JULY, ASBURY PARK (SANDY) / DETROIT MEDLEY
Incomplete setlist.
The listed tracks are mentioned as having been performed in a review the following day in the Charlotte Observer. This was a last-minute addition to the tour itinerary, arranged on only five days notice by a local promoter who became aware Springsteen had an open date available following the Duke University gig. Despite the lack of pre-event promotion Bruce pulled in an enthusiastic, near-sellout crowd of 2,400.
Given we just had Nice 97, it's unlikely to be Charlotte 96. I just liked the Ovens thing ;-) For all we know it's something from the Dunkin Donuts Center or the KFC Yum Center...
I'm thinking it's a 93 Show cua... Same was in the oven.

This would please me greatly... a true rarity.
obviously a very slow oven then as we're stillw aiting
I recall waiting 5 YEARS for a new ALBUM from Bruce from 1988 on…. Next to that, a gap of several weeks, or a month for an archival release is like……. waiting for your mom to finish brushing her teeth before you can use the only bathroom in the house. It’s not like it’s your brother - “Maaaa, he’s been in there for AN HOUR. What’s he doing????
Maybe Bruce will shock everyone and release a soundboard recording of a partial Steel Mill set - with a 22 minute long version of Resurrection, a previously unknown 29 minute surprise cover of Mississippi Queen with a 22 minute guitar solo, and a very slow Steel Mill medley of Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands with Mary Queen Of Arkansas?
The possibilities stagger the imagination when you think of all the ways you could be gobsmacked. 😳🤔🤨
Funny you should say that! I used to always cue up The Wind and The Rain when Mom entered the bathroom. After 17 minutes, that was how I could tell she was in there too long. And she didn't even have teeth.
Wind and Rain….bathroom….toothless
…… I consider myself gobsmacked, and I’m not even British
Friday tomorrow - just sayong
I hope we get word a release is coming. I expect we will.
It's in the Oven and will Land when ready. I am expecting 6/4/81. I have felt since the begining of all the coverage of the Euro 81 tour that this was true.
I have no idea of course, we will see.
From a poster on Greasy Lake: "Nugs replied to me on Tuesday saying: "We are hoping the next release will be this Friday."
If it's not coming we should get at least a delay announcement. We will see.
Don't hold your breath. It will be some obscure HT-LT show no doubt!

If that is true, that is a good choice. We can finally figure out the missing songs too. That is the earliest Darkness show on multitrack I think. The other soundboards are just recordings off the board.
IT'S OFFICIAL!
14 minute backstreets wow
its a buyer
Backstreets is actually around 11:30. the intro to Rosy is tacked onto the end of Backstreets. he talks to the crowd for a while asking about who attended the previous night's show. also some tuning issues. . .
excellent sound to boot. the mix is different than the circulating board tape of course (which IIRC had Steve pretty high in the mix). loved hearing him cranked up on that tape. but a near definitive version of the promise until he screws up the "followed that dream through the southwestern flats, dead ends and two bit bars" line at the end.
for the fans of audience noise and room ambience, unfortunately you will be disappointed. there is very little audience in the mix, almost none during the music.
I have the dowload
I thought we wouldn't get this for a long time. A great show. Is this the last multi-track from the Darkness tour except for the final night at Passaic (Bruce's birthday show)?
