The Bourbon & Beyond Festival debuted Saturday in Louisville's Champions Park with a full slate of bands, along with workshops and demonstrations designed to showcase Kentucky's bourbon and food cultures.

The music was a hit, with a massive crowd for Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder dominating that conversation, but the behind-the-scenes peeks into the state's distilleries and restaurants struggled to find an audience.

Pearl Jam doesn't play Louisville because the band isn't happy with how tickets are distributed at the KFC Yum Center, so there's a chance we've forgotten how popular it remains.

Vedder, Pearl Jam's singer and prime songwriter, performed solo and packed in a crowd that seemed to never end. It stretched across the width of Champions Field and deep into the grounds as Vedder charmed and raged his way through a set of originals and choice covers.

Vedder alternated between acoustic and electric guitars, ukulele, mandolin and organ, pausing frequently to joke. He recorded the crowd singing "Happy Birthday" to Bruce Springsteen and promised to send it to him after the show, following it up with a charged version of Springsteen's "Open All Night."
