10th is a great way to start off.
Glad to see he is giving Nils more solo time, he uses it well.
Agree, NJ crowd, at least in my area (211) was above average.
Always good to see the SPL'ers in person. Group picture should be posted soon by someone, I would imagine.
Agree: sign collecting is nauseating.
Agree: The crowd loves Mary's place, can't understand it.
And he did this long break (has he been doing it this way?, definite piss break material) where he talks about building a house of joy, a house of love... he seemed to be rambling after awhile.
Agree: would have been a pisser to have Kitty rather than DITD
And he WAS in rare form. Clearly pumped up. Not one song did I feel like he was phoning it in.
Man, Max looks old and tired on the screens. It made him look like he was about to keel over.
Disagree: I did not think the sound was as good as the Rising tour. Maybe just the section I was in, but it was a bit muddled.

Overall an excellent show, as expected from the Boss.

?be proud that you have neutered a brilliant message board. That is the true casualty?Hazy

A few other comments now that I am awake. The big screens are a little different. The quality of the picture is much better, and there were fewer close ups of Bruce's teeth. There seemed to be more shots of the crowd and some angles which I don't remember seeing before, such as from the side of the stage. They are also in an upside down T shape, so there were "tall" shots from time to time. The screens are also surrounded by lights which were on from time to time, which I wonder if they might cause a problem for tapers who are filming the screen. Also, there was a big screen behind the band which was put into use a few times. During Promised Land it showed a shot of a blue sky with clouds, and during the Rising there was a sunrise. During American Land the lyrics were on the screen, turning it into a giant teleprompter. There were also two stacks of speakers near the back of the floor section. I don't recall seeing them there at previous stadium shows, but I might have never paid attention to them. During Working on the Highway someone's daughter was next to Suzie, singing along. I couldn't tell who she was.
Some tailgating pics.

I didn't get the group pic on my camera, so someone else can upload that one.

It always looks darkest just before it gets totally black.

Stay calm until it's time to panic.

Thanks. I would have enjoyed that, but it would have been too much like 1999/2000.
Eugene - if this can be of any consolation to you, I also found Janey a trainwreck both in Paris and in Barcelona. Still,

1. why do people ask for THAT instead of, say, Restless Nights ?
2. why does Bruce pick that specific damn sign so often ?

Setlist wasn't bad for a night #1. Looking good for #2 and #3... I'll go out on a limb and predict 55 different songs over the 3 nights. <goes looking into the Dublin shows... whoa, a "measly" 43>
crap, photobucket is sloooooooooooooooooooow - and the uploaded jpg filename contains "janet" instead of "janey"... still waiting for the 2nd pic to come up sleep

[edit] ohh. Given the filename I thought someone had the audacity to put on a sign for Mary's Place... Meeting Across The River, mmm, what a treat ! Only saw that acoustic in the Devils tour, would love to get that...

And yes, clearly.

Speaking of the setlist scan, Bruce can't even count anymore...

I don't know if Badlands is #21 or #22 in his scribbling, but it sure can't be both !

yes me too Alan , I've always a great remembering of those GS meetings in '03 and the others following in other NJ arenas... wink

A big hello to everyone and have a blast on the third show!!

I was at the show, and I have been listening to the boot. (always a pleasure to relive those memories). I wanted to comment about how I have the same impression listening to the boot as at the show.

At the start of the show the sound of Bruce's voice was so outstanding. It was almost like you could hear those lungs (those fabulous lungs) working so perfectly. The first third was just over the top. My favorite moment was Atlantic City, when I put my hand on my heart, just out of the emotion, and then I could feel the bass echoing in my chest. It was a moment worth cherishing. And it continued right through Living in the Future. Bruce still sounding like his lungs are pumping - and the band is pumping along.

But then Mary's Place. Oh nuts. It was such a downer. And not just for me at the moment. In the boot, you can hear Bruce's voice/lungs just collapse. Even Working on the Highway, which is supposed to be upbeat, is just kind of sad. Finally, on the Rising, the voice comes back, with the full echo chamber intact.

I wonder if Bruce really needs an intermission, and his pride won't allow him to take one - so that's why we get Mary's Place in the shows that are planned to go longer than 2.5 hours.

To listen to Atlantic City from the boot is a huge pleasure. I think I'll edit out those three songs where Bruce's lungs collapsed.

If he needs a break, let Nils or Roy do a long solo leading into some great song. The building a house crap went on way too long.
