Hi folks, I have a question about CD ripping on a Mac.

I normally use iTunes to rip CD's. Is that my best option?

I know that on Windows PC's you folks use EAC but on a Mac what have you found to be a good quality ripper? The EAC folks have no plans for a Mac version.

I have read about CDDA Paranoia and from their description it "seems" to do the same as EAC but I'd like to know if any of you technical experts have any experience with that.

Here: http://www.xiph.org/paranoia/faq.html

There is a free program for the Mac called X Lossless Decoder who's latest release supports CD ripping using CDDA Paranoia.

My next question is if I used Windows emulation via VirtualPC running Windows XP does EAC work that way? Or because of emulation would it be too slow?

Why do you folks suggest people use EAC on a PC? Is it fast when ripping a CD? What are the differences between EAC and CDDA Paranoia?

Thank you in advance for your help.
I don't know what I don't know! Therefore I ask.

i don't know much about what itunes does when it rips. it does have an aiff encoder and an "error correction" setting, but i don't know what algorithm it uses. i use itunes only to rip CDs to put on my ipod.

you may want to check out the various mac programs referenced in the "downloading and uploading" forum, which includes info also on ripping programs. i have had good success with Max which uses paranoia ripping.
