I could be way off. However, in thinking recently, I had a realization. Is it at all possible, that with Bruce's recent failure to sway votes to Kerry's side with the VFC Tour, that Bruce will not go back to the ESB until George Bush is out of office. It seems to me that his last two albums, and the VFC Tour, obviously have been politically backed. Especially with his banter at concerts, speaking out against Bush, etc. Is it possible that Bruce will not go back to "The Boss w/ ESB" until he is happy with what he has done to fully speak out against Bush with these other political fights through song and tour. As I said, I could be way off, but just something that could explain the ESB absence. Because it's very clear that everyone misses the Rising & Reunion tours.

Congrats! You've become SPL's newest pantsload.

"Because it's very clear that everyone misses the Rising & Reunion tours."

This "everyone" doesn't miss the ESB. The D & D tour forced Bruce to be both musician and singer, and not to rely on anyone else. It also gave him the opportunity to challenge not only the audience, but himself, with seldom-played material.

The SSB tour gave us something else-Bruce with a BIG smile on his face.

I, for one, would be very happy never to hear Badlands, Born To Run, Rosalita, Born In The USA, Ramrod, or Bobby Jean in any way, shape or form.

Politics, schmolitics. He's just Landau's mouthpiece.
I think you're mistaken.

Though Bruce's efforts may be difficult to quantify, Kerry's defeat can't be taken to mean Bruce didn't help get out the vote. Kerry drew 59,028,109 popular votes, the second highest total in history. Reagan drew 54,455,075 votes in '84, by comparison.

Overt political content goes back much farther than the last two albums. You have to go back at least to BITUSA, and arguably even earlier.

Your premise depends on Bruce's assessment that his political message can be most effectively conveyed either solo or with the SSB. He sells more tickets and records with the ESB, so obviously his political message reaches a wider audience with them.

Right - he's got the itch to play, he's got a lot of music that doesn't really fit their style, they all have lives and businesses and being in the ESB2 is a side project for all of them. At this point getting them all together to commit to recording and touring probably involves six weeks of meetings with a few dozen lawyers, agents, managers, and wives.

Except for Danny, who I imagine just needs a phone call, a bus ticket, and the address to whatever studio/rehearsal space they've booked.

Put me down as one who prefers Bruce w/ the ESB. Joad, D & D, are fine albums, but they don't have the energy I want to see in a "live" performance by the Boss. For me, the ideal concert would be Bruce and the ESB returning to more intimate, smaller club venues. How about a 30th Anniversary Darkness Tour with the ESB? Nothing post-Darkness would be played.
Pro-Life or Pro-War? Make up your mind.
Don't you guys realise that every future tour with the ESB will become worse than the one before and so on, forget it , the best times are over and only way forward is trying to rediscover oneself and that includes low as well as high points. I don't wanna listen to all those classics anymore , they're worn out for the band . I enjoy much more Bruce trying out new things even though sometimes they will be much worse than before and other times better. And there is no point in trying to compare what he puts out now with what he once did. Take a look at your own life and see how different you are from 10,15 , 20 years ago. Move on!

I still don't get the point of comin' on here if you're just gonna slag Bruce off. Why don't you go on Bon Jovi's board. He's a bit younger and he's been doing the same old shit for twenty years so no chance of him changing his music and taking on fresh ideas.

I seriously just don't know why you bother, that's all. So you used to like Bruce years ago and now you don't, that's fine. There's plenty of other bands to listen too. If you don't like an album just don't listen to it, there's no point comin' on here and whingin' all the time it's not gonna turn we shall overcome into Born to Run .

Fair point. But I wasn't lecturing anybody about living in the past, I just said if you don't like something new there's no point constantly moaning about it because it's not gonna make it any better. Cheer up you never know his next album might be your favourite yet!

Have you been abducted also? Reagan would have buried Kerry. Reagan would have buried Clinton. [/]

The question was whether Springsteen helped get out the Kerry vote. I said nothing about a hypothetical head to head match. Try to stay on topic. Is Bruce spurning the ESB because it's not conducive to the expression of his political message?
