Jersey music stars shared soulful remembrances of Sam Moore of the soul duo Sam and Dave, who passed away on Friday, Jan. 10, according to USA Today.

Moore was 89.

Springsteen posted a video of Moore performing “Soul Man” with the E Street Band at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame event with words of remembrance on Saturday.

“Over on E Street, we are heartbroken to hear of the death of Sam Moore, one of America's greatest soul voices,” Springsteen said. “There simply isn't another sound like Sam's soulful tenor in American music. Having had the honor to work with Sam on several occasions, he was a sweet and funny man. He was filled with stories of the halcyon days of soul music, and to the end had that edge of deep authenticity in his voice I could only wonder at. We offer our prayers to his wife Joyce and thanks for the immortal recordings Sam left us. God bless.”

Legendary soul singer Sam Moore died Jan. 10, 2025 at the age of 89.

Bon Jovi referred to a Sam and Dave performance at the former Fast Lane in Asbury Park in his remembrance.

“Sam Moore, the Soulman, one of the pioneers and greatest singers ever has left us,” Bon Jovi said. “I’m not saddened as much as I felt incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to be in his presence. Having had the opportunity to perform and even record with Sam was humbling and an honor but knowing that I convinced Dorothea to come on what was our first date to see Sam and Dave in the spring of 1980 at the Fast Lane in Asbury Park was one of my fondest memories. Sending my luv to his wonderful wife Joyce and imagining that heaven sounds a little better with the voice of an Angel. Much luv Soulman.”

I've told this story is the past but I don't mind telling it again.

Yes, Bruce looked at me and I said for Ally and cocked my head and eyes in her direction.  He looked at her and said ok , line em up, Terry.  Terry MaGovern formed a line for all 8 of us.  Bruce asked Ally is that really you in that photo and smiled?

My car was right there on the street.  we hopped in and Ally asked me if we could eat at Harry's.  She had a birthday celebration there with all out Bruce buds the year before.  I said sure, honey.  I had a GMC Avalanche at the time and missed a parking spot out front so I drove around the block and started to parallel park.  I asked Ally to watch out the back and let me know if I was going to hit the curb.

She said Dad Bruce just pulled behind us.  We got out and walked into Harry's with him.  I asked him if he'd like to sit and eat with us.  He said he was going to the bar.  I bought him a drink and before desert came I had to go to the Men's room.  Bruce was in the Men's room.  I told him we have to stop meeting like this.

After desert Bruce came over and sat down with us we started to talk.  I asked him about his daughter and just as he starts answering, a young man literally burst through the door, runs over to Bruce waves a CD under his nose and asks him to listen to it as he's a musician and songwriter.  Bruce explains that he has to send it to his manager.  Bruce stand, looks at us and apologizes stating that he really has to leave now.

We felt bad and I always wonder how the rest of our conversation would have gone if the guy hadn't come through the door.

RIP Sam Moore.

When you watch some videos of him you can clearly see how much impact his work had on Bruce and Steve in terms of bandleading and performing.

That's still a great story Oats! Bummer how it ended, but way better than my 2.3 seconds of meeting Bruce.
