I was up in NJ last week and while I was traveling, I tuned into E Street Radio for a few minutes.  I heard Jim Rotolo speaking with a guest and they were discussing that Bruce had to get an an album out this year of Columbia could drop him for not fulfilling his contractual obligations hence the new album.  Naturally they said the album had been planned for a long time and is just too darn good to have been put together so quickly etc. etc.

Anyone else hear this?  Any comments?

Interesting. Looks like this can be pretty much trusted. The line that is important here:

"It’s obviously a rich deal given his stature.  However, given his track record, this is not an artist that we can afford to lose."
Record company isn't going to let go of Bruce that easily. He would have to just not do anything at all for a problem to ensue.

I'd buy it, remember the fallout from the ridiculous signing a few years ago? It wasn't popular at the time.

Now that sony has the rights to the back catalog from a business standpoint why do they need Bruce? His current record contract was signed in a world where Bruce had control of the back catalog and Sony needed Bruce to make money from Born to Run rereleases et al.

There is roughly zero percent chance that Bruce is going to live up to his current contract on the merit of his 2022+ sales. It would not surprise me if Sony cut Bruce if they had the opportunity.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Bruce wasn't interested in fucking around and while Sony might not have dropped him, his lawyers said... shit something out just to be safe...

All very good points.
