Tomorrow sees the second show of this US-leg for North Carolina. Will #8 in the series be as good as Charlotte?

Last time the band played Raleigh was in 2000. Two notable songs were Lucky Town and Dead Man Walkin‘.

Hey Folks,

If there is one thing this show solidified for me, it’s that Nashville was a FUCKING GOOD SHOW this year. It wasn't my imagination. Raleigh was significant letdown.

I was dead center against the back of the pit in the GA area. The seats behind the stage were not sold - so the big screen was nice. The rest of the arena seems to be just about sold out.

Things started out nicely. Lights out was a little early. High Hopes had a good level of energy. Badlands - better than Nashville. Out in the Street - brilliant after Badlands. It was looking like a good one at this point.

Bruce's whole family seemed to be here tonight to celebrate Jess' graduation. Growin' Up was great to hear. I think Evan and two mates from school came up on stage to sing the end verse. They were thrilled and so were we. I heard that Bruce played a private show or sound check for Jess and her school friends. There were 20-50 of them in the front and side near Patti. I think Jess was on stage for Dancing in the Dark.

It was request time. Brilliant Disguise was up. Great. Love that song. Max started, the band came in, and then shit went sour.

I don't know if it was Charley G or Roy, but half the band seemed in the wrong key - especially the keyboards. Gary was looking around - confused about what he was hearing. Bruce was hoping for a self-correction, but he finally had to tell the band to "take it down". Finally they all got into the same key. You will hear it on the recording.

You will also hear a lot of feedback. The microphones were all fucked up tonight. The sound crew couldn’t seem to self-correct either. Bruce was not happy. His mic was off for part of Glory Days.

It was from here that Bruce seemed off. I think it shook him. He went right back into the set list and stayed in safe territory until the encore. The set list was not a far cry from Nashville.

Nashville was much more loose and powerful. In Nashville there was more Tom Morello, there was more Nils, there were more horns, there were more surprises. In Raleigh, I swear it seemed Bruce was rushing through so he could go out with his kids.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. As you know, a mediocre Bruce show is better than most.

Pretty Flamingo was brilliant. He played it for Patti and I am glad he did.

Glory Days in the encore - loved it.

Full band Thunder Road - fantastic.

Oh, and singing the most important part of Tenth Ave right in front of me and shaking my hand was pretty damn cool as well. I held up my SPL hat and he definitely read it. Maybe he is Googling the SPL on his way out tonight. If so, Bruce, I am sorry you had to read this.

So, overall - not a total loss.

Nice review CJ, I don't think Bruce will mind so much although Jessica may be a bit hurt since you referred to her as a male.

ps: Nashville has made it to the Spingsteen Store.

Wow! Wonder if Bruce was made aware of this?

But yeah, she makes a valid point "...who the hell doesn't like Bruce Springsteen, for God's sake?"

Cheers,

I noticed it is a different person than the normal mixer.  This new guy is older with brown hair.  There was always a younger guy there with lighter hair before.  Maybe due to the shot tour, he hooked up with someone else.

I was at the 2000 Charlotte show.  What I remember is that women still had big 80's hair even though it was 2 decades later
