100 shows? 5 each tour? 10 each tour? Christ...

Why not simply collect suggestions for everyone's favourite shows per tour and then see where it goes? If 5 shows are nominated repeatedly and everyone has a sixth or seventh show that noone else mentions, then there you are. And everyone interested can give a listen to that sixth or seventh recommendation and maybe add it to his personal favourites or not, that's what it should be all about, look here how it is supposed to work:

https://www.spl-messages.net/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/314412#Post314412

I don't give much of a **** whether in the end it will be a Top X or a Top X list, I want an overview of what are the best bootlegs including the Uber Series, the Anonymous recordings from the 70s, MarkP from the 80s etc. The interesting and fun part should be the recommendations and not the organizing of the final list.

I would propose the following:

a. Seperate threads for each tour (Pre BTR, BTR, Chicken Scratch, Darkness, River, BITUSA, TOL, HT/LT, GOTJ, Reunion, Rising, D&D, Seeger, Magic, WOAD) or at least per decade; what is "essential", i.e. 2 from Magic, none from HT/LT etc. can be decided afterwards or in the course of the discussion. It would be nonsense to limit a certain tour to 2 shows from the start even though in the end only 2 of that particular tour are considered "essential".

b. Separate thread for the rest (One-Offs, VFC, Christmas etc.) Nobody only half right in his mind would want a top 5 list for 7 VFC shows, right?

c. Read Flynn's above post and get started
great idea...don't tell my wife...she's wondering why i have 600 boots in cases on shelves in our living room...not to mention 5 0r 6 big hard drives
any final list should include the following, inmho

main point
stranded in the park
winterland
agora
nassau night
vets night
kc night
independence night
longest date
brixton night
freehold night
ps in la
july 1 2000...whatever the current best version is
we swore we?d live forever

Agree on Boston, disagree on Indy. But Tampa is the one that is essential.
Agree completely with these suggestions.

One thing we need to do is get straight on the tour dates, as I posted last night.

The dates, per Earthslayer are as follows:

GREETINGS 10/28/1972 - 10/6/1973
WIESS 10/15/1973 - 03/.09/1975
BORN TO RUN 07/20/1975 - 05/27/1976
LAWSUIT/CHICKEN SCRATCH 08/01/1976 - 03/27/1977
DARKNESS 05/23/1978 - 01/01/1979
RIVER 10/03/1980 - 09/14/1981
B.I.T.USA Tour 06/29/1984 - 10/02/1985
TUNNEL OF LOVE 02/25/1988 - 03.08/03/1988
HT / LT 06/15/1992 - 06/01/1993
GOTJ 11/21/1995 - 05/26/1997
REUNION 09/04/1999 - 01/07/.2000
THE RISING 07/30/2002 - 10/04/2003
DEVILS AND DUST 04/25/2005 - 11/22/2005
SEAGER SESSIONS 04/.20/2006 - 11/21/2006

Yep.

Also, is there a great-sounding St. Louis 2008? Because I haven't heard it.

EVs version is very good. The original Bakerstuff tape is already a nice one but EVs is the one you should look for. It is definitely not in the same league as San Jose or Gothenburg from that tour, but still very good, lot of atmosphere, the most often played show from the Magic tour in my house...

While considering which shows to include, I think it's important to represent different phases of the same tour. The two tours that come to mind in this respect are GoTJ and The Rising - early GoTJ shows (the 1st leg, Nov-Dec 95) were very very different from the final shows in Europe. Same for the Rising, where the show didn't change much early on (3 or 4 identical shows, IIRC), but by the summer of '03 it was a free-for-all.

Just a thought....

Thanks mate.

San Jose is my fave from that tour, along with Orlando. I'll give this one a go.

It ain't no sin to be glad you're alive.

I've started to add individual threads for each tour - up to HT/LT for now, I'll add more in a week or so, don't want to be overwhelmed.

I'll also create two other threads "out of tour live performances" eg Amnesty, Christic, VFC, Bridge Benefit etc, and "non-live boots" such as Lost Masters, The Ties That Bind.

What do you think about one for "compilations" such as the Flynn boots, Nebraska Live and so-on?

Once we have our "candidates" of ten or so per tour, maybe the best thing would be to create a poll to get the list down to five.
For all those spiritually inclined people around here... why not make it

THE 108 DIVINE SHOWS

I like the idea that we keep discussing more bootlegs here in these threads,
as there are surely a lot of people who like to be inspired
not only to listen to the Top boots everybody agrees on,
but also to some gems that have only a few moments that really stand out
Hi folks I am from Italy and new to the forum.
I read about all the posts on this topic and basically I agree with most of the titles listed but I have a quick question for you all, why none of you listed any godfather records cd, I got all of them and I must say that most of them are simply great. I appreciate the crystal cat ones but I also think that the godfather records are at least at the same level, don't you agree with this?

Most Godfather releases are just remasters of already circulating tapes, and rather heavy-handed remasters at that. CDs like Home of the 76ers and the Bottom Line 75 are good examples. If you have any particular favourites please nominate them!
I would like to add to consideration the 1999/08/27 show which closed the Boston stand- Great performance, good set list, a representative show for the tour though the circulating recording may not be at the next level

Setlist: Candy's Room/The Ties That Bind/Adam Raised a Cain/Prove It All Night/Two Hearts/Rendezvous/Darlington County/Mansion on the Hill/Point Blank/Youngstown/Murder Inc./Badlands/Out in the Street/Tenth Avenue Freeze-out/Working on the Highway/Spirit in the Night/The Ghost of Tom Joad/New York City Serenade/Light of Day
First Encore: Jungleland/Born to Run
Second Encore: Thunder Road/If I Should Fall Behind/Raise Your Hand (w/ Peter Wolf)/Bobby Jean/Land of Hope and Dreams
I propose a new section to the must-have, for the silly among us:

SHOWS WITH HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

They may not be great performances, may not have great sound quality, but are interesting to the avid collectors among us. Such as:

Earliest/Last known recorded performance of .... Castilles, BSB, Dr. Zoom, etc

First/last performance of band members: Danny's final show comes to mind, but there are many others (Vini, Steve, Max and Roy, Nils)

Lotsa possible categories and shows of historical importance to the Bruce fan.

Just a thought....
Again the same question: What has happened to the project?

What's the status? Chicken Scratch, Born to Run, Greetings / WIESS, Darkness polls are finished:

What's next? Will any admin set up the next poll(s)? Will the above chosen be uploaded lossless?

I followed that project for the whole time but unfortunately couldn't contribute much. But I would really like to see that one going to the end! Let's go on!
