Steinbrenner: It's win or else for Torre
FOXSports.com, Updated 1 hour ago
George Steinbrenner has kept quiet for most of the season, but he sounded off in a big way Saturday night.
The Yankees owner told The Record of North Jersey that manager Joe Torre will likely be fired if the Yankees don't rally to beat Cleveland.
"His job is on the line. I think we're paying him a lot of money. He's the highest-paid manager in baseball, so I don't think we'd take him back if we don't win this series," said Steinbrenner.
The Yankees currently trail the best-of-5 series 0-2.
It would be the third straight first-round exit for the Yankees, whose flop vs. the Tigers last season nearly led to Torre's firing.
He also had some choice words for umpire Bruce Froemming, who allowed Game 2 to continue despite an infestation of Lake Erie gnats.
"The umpire was full of (expletive)."
As for Alex Rodriguez, Steinbrenner hopes to keep the slugger around a while longer.
"I think we'll re-sign him. I think he's going to have a good run the rest of the (postseason). I think he realizes New York is the place to be, the place to play. A lot of this (postseason) is laying on his shoulders, you know, but I think he's up to it."
Torre better hope so.

Can Torre collect unemployment?
For the first time this season, I'm glad the Sox got rid of Trot.
So all in all, these Divisional play-offs could go down as a huge bust. Potential for all series to be sweeps.
Buh bye, Roger.
Too funny.
Fuckin' Jeter's killing us...Arrghh!!!!!!
Bwahahahahahahaha!!
Bwahahahahahahaha!!
5-4-3. That's clutch.

Have we started the Yankees Suck chant yet?
I feel a stampede of ostriches coming.
Now that the Yanks have a 5-3 lead I'm guessing A Rod will get a meaningless single his next time up.

If Damon had to hit that home run, they could have at least focused a camera on his wife for 30 seconds, or so.
Now Jesus isn't missing Beantown either
Hazy pisses away his Phillies misery.
He must have a monster size bladder. That creek could become a tributary of the Schuylkill.
Ya gotta love a man who admires his own work.
I think I stepped in that yesterday.
Axel wouldn't have.
How's that Trot thing working out for you?
Hmmmmmmm. We shall see.
Yup, you're still retarded.

You know, these fucking announcers. First they say Mussina has NEVER pitched in relief, then someone must rememebered the 2003 ALCS.

IF the Yanks don't win this thing, Indian fans will be grateful to Torre that he he didn't start Hughes in a game. We can not touch that guy. And now he won't be available for tonight.

Some announcer just said Yankee stadium is as quiet as it ever will be in October. I got a good feeling its going to be even quieter starting tomorrow.
