Reply to "The Meaning of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Rhinestone Cowboy’"

I love how in some circles achieving financial success automatically invalidates your experience from birth to 25.  The backlash toward Springsteen from the right is built on two shaky pillars of lack of imagination: that anyone who has money now must secretly believe what they believe, and that artistic fictionalization is tantamount to lying.  Well, no and no.  Your values are inherent in your upbringing, and Racing in the Street works as a piece of songwriting whether Springsteen knows how a car is put together or not.  It is revealing of the article writer's lack of empathy that he can't recognize that.  But hey, he got to take a cheap shot at an iconic leftist, so mission accomplished!
