They invaded a democratically elected government, and a potential member of NATO. If that makes you smirk, you've got serious issues and really have no business in a seriously conversation about the next president of the United States.
You forgot to mention that Georgia invaded some neighboring countries first. Did Russia use this as an excuse to invade Georgia. Probably but that is no worse than the US invading Iraq based on the WMD excuse lies or the itchy trigger finger to go after Iran. No smirk but tired of cringing for our failed foriegn policies that are made up by people who are still fighting with a world map that was drawn during WWII.
I could be wrong (it's been known to happen), but I believe Southern Ossetia is within the borders of Georgia. And let's not forget the Russian occupied Abkhazia (also part of Georgia).
There is no excuse for what Russia just did.
