Springsteen drummer Max Weinberg is selling ‘amazing’ Palm Beach home
If his home on Palm Beach’s near North End were a song, it would probably be “By the Beautiful Sea,” from the musical “For Me and My Gal,” says Max Weinberg, longtime drummer for Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band.
“Or maybe our house would be Rosemary Clooney’s ‘Come On-a My House,’ ” adds Weinberg, who spent years as bandleader for Conan O’Brien on “The Tonight Show” and “Late Night With Conan O’Brien.”
Both songs are upbeat and breezy, so they could both be applicable to the Weinberg house near the sea at 110 Wells Road.
In any case, when Weinberg and his wife, Rebecca, bought their home a year ago, what they thought they wanted — in addition to something upbeat and breezy — was a house big enough to accommodate visits from their grown children.
“We’ve had a number of properties in Palm Beach over the years, and we felt this house was so great because it’s almost 7,000 square feet, and it’s a wonderful family home,” Max Weinberg says. “Also, we loved its location — one house from the ocean. We can virtually fall out of bed to go swimming or walk on the beach.”
Over their married life, he estimates they’ve owned 40 properties in many parts of the United States and in Europe.

“We like redoing them ourselves, with input from local designers and architects,” he says.
This particular house, though, had been recently renovated by the late developer James “Jim” A. Pappas, and it suited the Weinbergs from the get-go. So no improvements were needed.
But as it turns out, the house has proved too big for just the two of them, as the Weinbergs’ children didn’t visit as much as they had anticipated. Weinberg and his wife also travel for long periods of time. They have a home in Italy and are building one in the Adirondacks.
As such, they have co-listed their five-bedroom house — with six bathrooms and two half-baths — with agents Paulette Koch and Dana Koch of Corcoran Group. They are asking $7.25 million for the house, which was built in 1986 and has 6,493 square feet of living space, inside and out.
The couple, however, remains “bullish on Palm Beach,” Max Weinberg says, and they plan on staying in town.
The exterior of the Wells Road house features classic Mediterranean-style details — a barrel-tile roof, a central stone façade with an arched entry and arched windows within the stair tower that overlook the front courtyard. At the rear of the house, columns and wrought iron embellish the covered loggia and balcony.
The previous renovation had included removing the old staircase, building a new stairwell and dropping the ceiling in the foyer, which provided more space for bedrooms upstairs.
From the entry and stair hall, a gallery leads south to the living room and family room and north to a bedroom suite. The dining room and kitchen are west of the foyer, as well as the two-car garage and a bedroom suite that doubles as a pool cabana.
The rooms overlooking the pool and spa have French doors that lead to the L-shaped loggia. There also are terraces off the living room and cabana bedroom.
On the second floor, the master bedroom suite is west of the main hallway, with two guest-bedroom suites on the east side of the house. In the bedrooms facing south, French doors open to a terrace. The second-floor bedroom floors are carpeted, and bathrooms feature neutral marble.
Interior elements include Jerusalem limestone floors and a tray ceiling in the entry area, hardwood floors in the living areas, a pitched ceiling in the living room and a wet bar in the family room. Floors in the two downstairs bedroom and the kitchen are also covered in Jerusalem limestone.
The kitchen is appointed with white cabinetry and granite counters, while the work island has pull-up seating. Appliances are either finished in stainless steel or integrated into the cabinetry.
“It’s a seriously amazing house on a big lot, and we’ve just enjoyed it,” Weinberg says. “If people are of the same mindset as my wife and I, feeling the ocean breeze is pretty remarkable.”
