If it is the first time one checks out a group, and wants to see the total menu, you've gotta download "ALL" headers and not just "LATEST", right? One may of course abort the process (delete from list) if one see the group has got no/minimal interest to oneself...
In the old days before nzbs, the only way to find a particular item was to download group headers until you found what you were looking for. Not a problem in a small group like ABMS, but something like alt.binaries.dvd would get so large that old news-readers couldn't cope, and would crash. Not a problem for modern computers with gigs of RAM and good software, but with <512MB and flaky software... you didn't stand a chance.
PAR files and NZBs make the whole process SO much easier. Too easy, perhaps.
