Bruce Springsteen mocks Trump's disastrous phone call with Australian PM by playing 'Dont Hang Up' at Melbourne concert
The Boss and the E Street Band followed up the joke by launching into immigrant song American Land

Bruce Springsteen has mocked Donald Trump over his phone call blow-up with the Prime Minister of Australia, opening a concert Down Under with a cover of the 1960s hit "Don't Hang Up".
After the story dominated media in Australia all day, Springsteen told the crowd in Melbourne he would use the song by The Orlons to return serve to the U.S. President.
"We stand before you embarrassed Americans tonight," Springsteen said to fans, laughing after taking the stage at AAMI Park.
"This is a song from 1965 by The Orlons. We're going to use this to send a letter back home."
Springsteen began the song: "Don't hang up, oh no pretty darling, baby don't hang up don't hang up like you always do..."
The Boss then launched into immigrant song American Land as a reference to the Trump administration's Muslim ban.
He later played Bush-era song Long Walk Home with its killer line: "You know that flag flying over the courthouse, means certain things are set in stone: who we are, what we'll do and what we won't."
Guitarist Steve Van Zandt earlier tweeted before the show: "Australia is, was, and always will be one of the USA's best friends and closest allies.
"Apologies for today's temporary embarrassment."
Springsteen, who has campaigned for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, has been routinely taking pot shots at Trump during his Australian tour with song choices and speeches from the stage.
In Perth, he called himself and the E Street Band the new "American resistance".
The latest salvo comes after bombshell reports out of Washington that Trump "yelled" at Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull over the phone and then hung up on him.
The Washington Post claimed Trump blasted Turnbull over his insistence that the US stand by a refugee swap deal agreed with Barack Obama.
Trump cut the call short after just 25 minutes even though it was scheduled for an hour, the Post claimed.
The President had spoken pleasantly with other leaders including Vladimir Putin but described his call with Turnbull as "the worst so far', it was claimed.
The report has sparked blanket media coverage in Australia where Turnbull leads with a thin majority.
Turnbull said on Thursday he had spoken "candidly" and "frankly" with U.S. President Donald Trump, but would not confirm that Trump had berated him and cut the call short.
Time for the cape.

Solid. But a short show according to Springsteen-standards...
That's all folks. Show is over.
Big thanks to Explode for posting the first part of the setlist.

No worries Glad to help & Thanks to you.
Those 5 tunes after the hilarious and mocking 'Don't Hang Up' are all about sticking together and not giving up. A great start. I wish it was in DC.
The River
Long Walk Home
I'm on Fire
FWIW the show was supercharged and full of energy...and the performance first rate. The entire crowd of circa 40,000 were along for ride and ate it up with gusto. It was a fast and furiously paced Springsteen party of the highest order with maximum audience participation.
Highlights were the opening song and the theme of the next 5. NYCS wow as usual (and the strong section GORGEOUS!), The River, Atlantic City, Long Walk Home and T&S wth the fireworks (and Nils went for a six tripping over what looked like an amp or something, woops!! Bruce laughed )
However overall I have to say I came away a bit disappointed. Yep...
It was largely a show for casual fans and as I said 95% of the crowd would've gone home very happy indeed and tell all their mates about it.
As someone said it was solid but uninteresting.

It was by no means short. The pace was unrelenting and Bruce emptied the tank...as always.
