We've talked about it in the past. Now let's do it.

Let's name the Top 5 bootlegs for each tour, with as many as 5 more suggestions. The sound has to be pretty damn good for a boot to make the list, but sound quality is not the sole criteria. We'll weigh in the performance (i.e., the energy level, the setting, the setlist, etc.) because that matters, too. Otherwise we'd all be listening to the Atlanta Rising boot, which won't even make the list.

I'll keep a running list here at the top of what the consensus seems to be for each tour. It will change, of course.
Anybody who wants other ideas can probably dig through this thread someday for suggestions that fell short. There are going to be a lot of excellent boots that don't make the list.
So let's get started.

This is the 'Tunnel Of Love' tour thread, covering the dates 1988-02-25 to 1988-08-03.

1988-02-25 Worcester (Heart Attack on the First Night, Ev2)
1988-03-20 Pittsburgh (A Prisoner Of Pittsburgh, Ev2)
1988-05-02 Mountain View (Something New & Beautiful, Ev2)
1988-05-03 Mountain View (The Longest Date, Ev2)
1988-05-10 Bloomington (Bloomington Night, ?)
1988-05-22 MSG, New York (This Is Not A Dark Ride, Doberman)
1988-07-03 Stockholm (Summer Night, CC)
1988-07-14 Basel (Restless Nights, Ev2)
1988-07-17 Munich (Do You Love Me?)
1988-07-22 Berlin (Badlands Of Berlin)

1988-02-25, Worcester, MA (The First Date or Heart Attack on the First Night) -- This is one of my favorite shows of all time with some unique attributes for this tour: the keyboard intro to Walk Like a Man (never played again after the 1988-02-29 show), the Audrey story prior to Spare Parts (another aspect not repeated once the tour left Worcester), and the freshness of everything.

I agree. This and Pittsburgh are my favourites from TOL tour

There is a recent Fanatic Records "edit", but the only changes seem to be adjusting the tracks breaks so the intros are in the same track as the songs, which quite frankly no-one wants.

Now this is what makes this so confusing. I have this version "This Is Not A Dark Ride-Remasters Plus(Cat's Meow Label)" which is not great sound. So is that the same as Fanatic Records?

A large undertaking. Glad Pete and Flynn and the rest know all these boots by heart. Scary, but nice. smirk

Which is the way it should be done wink

We sit here stranded, though we're all doin' our best to deny it

at this point,i think the tape Ivann and i have is better than the radio source.
but tape1 is the most difficult one to work with, caused by phasing. sick
at this point i think i leave it as how far as i got,and make the rest available, but i found away to get tape 1 much better, more soundlike tape 2,only i dont know how long it gonna take me todo it that way.(have to put up mid range up and down in one song) crazy
but east Berlin 88 is sure one whe gotta have not a normal tol show. cool
but where is that dvd of it i sure would have that one for someone lived there at that time but did not know bruce was there.
and there is no one here of that 160000 people who where there who can tell me something confused
disc1 is one abms under give me youre opinion ,or something like that smile

there are only two kinds of music ROCK and ROLL

I find it surprising no one has done a version of the Stockholm broadcast from a better source than the CC. In the U.S. broadcast Kid Leo shuts up before the music starts. I swear my VHS tape version of the original broadcast sounds better than the CC, but I haven't a clue about making a decent digital transfer.

"I've done my best to live the right way"

if i remember correctly the radio broadcast of the east-berlin show is a total garbage.it had the audio fades of the tv broadcast.

just a question, what about Rotterdam 29-06-88,Home Of The Champions is unlistenable and lossy.does anyone have any alternative?

regarding THE LIST.

IMO,we must have EV2 Heart Attack On The First Night, just for WLAM with the fantastic intro.
another contender should be 19-06-88 Cruising In Love Town.a great sounding audience tape.

and also dont forget the acoustic 18-06-88 SOS racism for the specials section.

I'm sure plenty of people on here could help.

If interested, PM me. Obviously someone in the U.S. is preferable. I checked the tape and it plays fine. There's about a half hour intro program with Scott Muni and Kid Leo which includes Spirit and Bishop Danced from Max's Kansas City and the 1978 Berkeley Prove It All Night along with an interview with Bruce talking about how he met each member of the band. There?s also a post concert portion with Kid Leo interviewing the promoter, discussing the Amnesty Tour with Amnesty reps along with the acoustic Born to Run and Sandy from Live. It?s recorded in LP mode on TDK Extra High Grade tape.

How about Munich 88? Back in 1989/1990 I used to have it on tape from the vinyl boot "Who`ll Stop the Rain". I remember it as a marginally better performance than the Stockholm radio broadcast and with great clear sound considering that it was a audience recording. At the time I thought the sound was nearly as good as Stockholm.
However I don`t know if the "Who`ll Stop the Rain" vinyl boot is from the same recording as the "Kiss in the Rain" cd version, as I haven`t heard the latter. And I haven`t got the tape anymore. (The tape of the first set actually broke)

Pittsburgh is a NO brainer. Opening night not so much. Are we really gonna include a show because a out of place intro to Walk Like A Man? The sound is only OK.
