Meek Mill is pulling “The Boss” card in the wrongful death case against him, asking if concertgoers would blame Bruce Springsteen if they were injured at one of his shows.
Meek’s legal team filed documents on November 21 demanding he be dismissed from the entire case to “avoid a waste of time and resource,” and to “spare him from spending money to defend himself against meritless claims.”
The rapper was sued by the families of Travis Ward and Nathan Mitchell after both were shot and killed outside Meek’s show last December at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford, CT. The suit also names Live Nation, Roc Nation and the concert venue as defendants.
The families of Ward and Mitchell are alleging Meek incited “thugs” in the crowd into a violent frenzy which resulted in the shooting in the parking lot.
In Meek’s new filing, the question is posed: “If a woman was hit by a drunk driver outside a Bruce Springsteen concert, could she sue Springsteen based on the allegation that he failed to warn the venue that he knew that people like to drink at Springsteen concerts and that there had been drunk driving incidents after his concerts before? Or could she sue Springsteen because his songs contain lyrics like, ‘Well I got some beer and the highway’s free’?”
Meek says he was merely performing a concert and was not in control of the venue or premises. He had no part in or control of the shooting that went down in the parking lot.
He wants to be completely dismissed from the suit ASAP.
