WOW!!

It started like anyother day , but this day was beyond special! I was going to meet The Boss..my idol my hero...well music hero anyways...kami and I drove down in the morning.from our place it only takes about 3 hours , so not to horrible.the book store (Powell's Books) was very easy to find.Parking....not so much!! LOL After about ten minutes we were able to find a spot about 4 blocks away!far...but not to bad (I say that because last Thursday I decided to hurt my back) for having to use a cane to walk.so I hobble the 4 blocks to the store.I only had 1 ticket so Kami stayed in the car .when I get to the building with the fast growing line on the side walk I ask someone how it worked. He said go to the store entrance and show your ticket , they will get you the book and then go to end of the line.easy enough...and the end of the line was right at the book doors anyway so it was easy.I showed my ticket and id she handed me the book and put a wrist band on me and said ok shooo....noooo funniest thing...she said...ok shooo...LOL

I take my treasure and head back outside to the meet line.there , I open the book and glance at the signature (mainly because I have a feeling it's a stamp)...seeing how it's pre signed , there's a good chance it is a stamp and not real . let's face it....he isn't doing it at a table infront of us..so it does cross your mind.well , that was soon put to rest...as myself and the guy behind me compared ours...and they were slightly different....not a lot....just enough to put the stamp idea to bed for good.As we stand there the great north wet decided to show it's face and rain on us.being smart i had asked for a bag when shoo lady gave me my copy ,unfortunately it was a paper bag.but not to worry...well,to much anyway, a lady had approached the line handing out plastic bags and also little mini candy's for us!! Awesome move Powell's...very cool. So now we're moving....and I mean moving....we moved about 30 feet in a matter of a minute....niceeeee!!! I rounded the corner where I first walked up to the building...moving , moving , moving.....wooohooo...we are on the wood deck stoop.just feet away from being in the store.mind you it's been 1/2 hour or so of walking and stopping  to get here.As I stand there looking around at the street and cars and people going past this huge line of people , I can see by the looks on the faces they are wondering what's going on!!! As I look around , (taking it all in and enjoying the fact I'm about to meet Bruce) something made me look at the street pole...still not sure what it was or even why , but I did!!! I had to do a double take because I couldn't believe what I was seeing....could it be????nooooo.... wait....what!!!! The street i walked up from the parked car....the street the meet line doors were on is 10th Ave!!! NOOO WAY!!!! couldn't be more appropriate....I pointed it out to the the guy infront of me , as we had been talking all morning.he smiled and agreed it was pretty cool!!!

We're in....and slowly making our way...down isles of book racks as high as 12 feet...some anyway....in and out ,around and back to in and out and around we went..floor after floor...it was like mice in a maze and our cheese was Bruce!!!! After two hours of this we came to a woman with a pair of scissors. Wrist please....snip....it was gone!! But just a few more racks left , we could see the curtain that hides our hero....I pass a row of stacks...closer now...as I approach another walk way a woman says...hands free....only book allowed!!!! I hand over my coat (that I had long taken off) and point to my cane!!she says no sir...that's allowed!!! Phew....I take 20 more steps the curtain pulls open..... OMG!!!! THERE HE IS!!!! As I stand there his handler steps towards me and says...do you need him to step down or can you step up?? I look down and see he is on a raised platform.I say no...I can get up..a bookstore employee says phone please....I hand it over.I turn to the handler and hand him a rock my wife hand painted for Patty , mind you....this whole time the line is moving...but I'm not even paying attention....I hear sir....I look....I turn back to the handler...then I hear hey!!!!in a deep jersey accent....my head turns to that voice....I freeze....and then he says...Do I need to come down???? Ummmm nooo I'm ok.I step up and shake his hand...He points to my shirt and says I like that...I like that...I say Matawan....he says..oh yea..thats my neck of the woods...I say...thats where I'm from...and thank you for all the music that's done so much for me...he said thank you....and it was over!!! Off I go...it was over!!!!

BUT OH SO WORTH IT!!!!!

My turn, lol

Calling him my SPl Brother doesn't do our relationship the justice it deserves.  He's my blood brother like no other.   this is another chapter in his and my continuous Springsteen adventure's.

I decided to write this down and memorialize it since my memory isn't what it used to be .

Here's our story and I'm sticking to it.
My usual cool and calm sidekick,  HeyEddie, was the most excited and anxious I've ever seen him. This day and only this day, we had a role reversal going on. lol

We get to Powell's Books, the biggest bookstore I've ever seen in my life, 4 stories and one whole city block a bit after 9:00am.  There must be 600 ahead of us just to get their book and wristband. The skies were cloudy and rain was called for but it held off until we were safely under the roof and inside Powell's. They had the line winding, zigging and zagging through the first three floors of the store.

We made friends with all around us, imagine that? Four of us bonded, Ed and me and a woman from DC named Beth and a singer songwriter from the Portland area, named Matt Lindley, who just happened to have his own premiere CD being introduced on or about this very day. Both were big fans and very articulate in expressing their devotion.

Ed goes in first and his photographer was very good, snapping off three quick photos. I'll let Ed tell you what he said to Bruce.

I'm up next and Bruce comments on my Stone Pony London shirt. I shake his hand lean in and tell him that he danced with Ally in 2003 at GS and she just got married over labor day weekend. He smiles and says "that's really nice".
I walk away and as the girl gives me my camera she says "check the photo, I'm not sure it came out" It didn't...totally blank. They let me get back in the line and take another photo with Bruce. As he sees me again, he raises his eyes, I explain that the photo didn't come out. We shake hands again and I get the photo this time, just wish the photographer caught me smiling.

We go out with our two new Bruce buds to have drinks and a bite to eat at a local establishment, named Henry's, where the beer was on tap, ice cold and the food decent. We all had a grand ole time.

For dinner, Ed and I went to a highly rated seafood restaurant, Jake's Crawfish, where we ate Washington State Steelhead Salmon two different ways and were quite satisfied.

We took a red eye back to Newark and dreamed about our day the entire flight.Oats & The Boss 2016-10-04 aHeyEddie & The Boss 2016-10-04

I'd rate this as another very successful road trip. What do you think?

The moment I had waited 31 years for.  It was very surreal.  I loved reading your posts Todd and Oats!   Tara got to meet him as well.  How lucky are we that we got to say thank you to the man who has brought us all so much joy?  It was truly a perfect moment on time!!!

We certainly were very lucky.   I certainly could tell by the big smile on your face.  I think they caught me at the end of my sentence to The Boss. lol

Plus I didn't get to whisper in his ear.

She said last night she read those letters...
And they made her feel one hundred years old...

I must of had an asshole. He only took 1 pic...and Ive seen others from the bookstore that had 3 and 4 pics taken...

I know I gave my cell to a woman...but then a guy gave it back.

so no idea....guess it all depended on who took the pic.I took a few when I got to his side of the sheet they had put up.but only 1 of myself and Bruce....

Those taking the photos are employees of the book store.  They may not be familiar with all cameras.  The young lady that phoofed my shot obviously wasn't and realized she was over her head.  I thank God she asked me to check the camera before leaving that area.  I was quite happy with the one and only one photo I was able to get.

I asked the girl to take one with the hug and one with the pose. She said she could only do one. I asked her to just do her best. she did well. I put up the blurry one, I have a better shot. We should be thankful for the one, many people didn't get any, plus you were aware enough to have an honest expression of gratitude. I  said thank you for doing this.....

If my spelling bothers you don't read my posts

I never said I was ungrateful....I for one am VERY HAPPY...AND STILL ON CLOUD 9 ABOUT IT.

with the trouble I had even getting a single ticket I know how lucky I am....

I was simply asking how everyone got more then one pic...since it was store employees takeing them and not our friends...

I knew they were bookstore people Oats.

and wasn't trying to sound as if I was pissed I only got one....sorry you all thought that.

Yeah me too.  Ed got three shots but my camera was older and after the first mistake.  I'm sure they just wanted to make sure they got the shot.  So the photographer probably checked to see if it came out right after clicking,
