Lafayette College must really want to win. It's pulling out all the stops for its rivalry week festivities leading up to Saturday's football game with Lehigh University at Fisher Stadium in Easton.
On Friday night, Lafayette alum Joe Maddon, manager of the World Series-champion Chicago Cubs, hosted an outdoor party for students, faculty and staff on campus.
And he brought some of his friends. Namely, Max Weinberg -- drummer for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
Maddon, 62, is a huge Springsteen fan, and the headline act at Friday's party was Springsteen tribute band The B Street Band.
Weinberg joined the band for a bit -- he played "Darlington County" -- to the delight of the estimated 500 or so people in attendance. He wore a Cubs jersey under a zippered Lafayette hoodie with a Beat Lehigh button.
Sponsored by Maddon, his wife Jaye and alumni of Zeta Psi, the party was intended to in part support the Maddons' Respect 90 Foundation, which is involved in a number of community service projects in Maddon's hometown of Hazleton, Pa.
The teams meet for the 152nd time Saturday in Easton, with pride and bragging rights on the line.
Lafayette plays Lehigh at Fisher Stadium at 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The two teams played their historic 150th game in 2014 at Yankee Stadium and own the most-played rivalry in college football.
Maddon went to Lafayette from 1973 to 1976 and left in his senior year to pursue a pro baseball career. He received an honorary degree in 2010.
