I miss em!! Are you guys still out there doing your wonderful work??

I know they're generally not as "clean" as the official releases but there's something about a good fan recording that is somehow...um better.

A recent example for me is Purple Rain.

For pure impact of the song live Stan Golstein's video (pretty much the first out I think) is sooooo great. The audio isn't "clean" but for me it beats the free official MP3 download.

In particular Nils' solo is killer on that video but whilst it's still great on the MP3 (and official video) it didn't have quite the same impact for me.

There is something to be said about capturing the "in the room" sound of a great performance.

Dont get me wrong, it's awesome that we have access to official recordings for every show now, it's amazing and I'm thankful.

However my thoughts...

Cheers,

Hazy

Of course all us collectors, we want the aud tapes.  This is just my opinion but... for the sound and even the concert experience especially for the shows, I've been to.  I prefer the O.L.D.s, it's not even close.  The latest releases are so damn good there's no comparison. They are everything I've ever wanted in a live recording of his.  These O.L.D.s are not sterile like a true IEM.  They have warmth and depth. For lack of a better description, they are missing the constant background ambiance of an audience recording.  But I'll take that trade off any day.

You're comparing one track from an official 4 track release, Dec 29th in Nassau, that may have taken months to master in a studio to a complete live concert that needs to be released in a timely fashion. This version of Incident is also probably one of the top five versions he's ever played.  I'd say you stacked the deck, not really a fair comparison.

Plus that will never happen unless you want to wait quite a bit longer for your downloads.

Yes, I'd like to hear exactly what the audience is hearing during the show. So I guess that means from the board.

It's taken them the whole tour pretty much to improve the mixes on what is mostly a static setlist. How will they go with a more dynamic show? Not holding my breath...
