Bruce Springsteen 'Born to Run' memoir coming out on paperback

Bruce Springsteen is about to become a paperback writer.

The Boss’ hit memoir, “Born to Run,” will be released on paperback in September, according to a press release announcing a new music rights publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group.

Target already has the paperback version on sale, 528 pages for $13.38, to be released on Sept.  5.

The hardcover version of “Born to Run" was released on Sept. 27, 2016 from Simon & Schuster. Springsteen marked the day with a book event at the Freehold Barnes & Noble where he met with approximately 2,000 fans over four hours. Fans who purchased a book got a photo of themselves, and a handshake or a hug, with Springsteen on a platform in the rear of the store. Similar book events took place across the country.

As for his music rights deal, it’s the first time a single publisher will represent his entire catalog worldwide. Music publishing companies collect rights fees for songwriters and they sell the rights to allow an artists’ music to appear in commercials and movies. Springsteen’s pushing rights were previously held by Downtown Publishing in the United States and Sony/ATV in the United Kingdom.

The Universal Music Publishing Group is headed by music vet Jody Gerson

“We are thrilled to be working with Jody Gerson and her team,” said Springsteen manager Jon Landau in a statement. “After 40 productive years of working with the leading independents, it is now time for us to centralize Bruce’s publishing. UMPG combines putting the artist first with creating, leading and managing the incredible changes occurring in the world of publishing. At this point in Bruce’s legendary songwriting career, they are an ideal fit.”

Gerson’s father was the owner of the famed Latin Casino in Cherry Hill. She’s a native of Philadelphia

“During a career spanning more than 40 years, Bruce Springsteen has amassed one of the most iconic catalogs of songs in the history of music,” said Gerson in a statement. “As an artist, his demand for excellence and his requirement for heart and passion in everything that you do is the standard for how we operate every day at UMPG. We are thrilled to put the entire global resources of our company into expanding the popularity of his music and creating exciting new fan experiences.”
