Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: 'We ain't done yet,' Max says

 Published 12:29 p.m. ET Feb. 2, 2018

Max Weinberg said something on stage that should help those with cases of E Street anxiety.

“Don’t worry, we ain’t done yet,” said Weinberg of the future of the E Street Band at a Max Weinberg Jukebox show at the Tarrytown Music Hall in New York on January 19.

The ongoing viability of the E Street Band came up last month when bassist Garry Tallent and guitarist Nils Lofgren expressed uncertainty about the future of the band on Twitter.

“The E Street Band will be back out on the road,” said Weinberg in Tarrytown.

John Murtagh of Yonkers was in the audience and heard the comments.

“He did not say when, but he was unequivocal,” Murtagh said.

That’s a change from the replies of Lofgren and Tallent to the question of whether or not the E Street Band would tour again.

“I sure hope so,” tweeted guitarist Lofgren to a fan query about the future of the band.

“Looking unlikely though,” replied bassist Tallent to the Lofgren tweet.

The conversation came up after it was announced that the Go-Go’s “Head Over Heels” musical will open this summer at the Hudson Theatre on Broadway instead of the Walter Kerr Theatre. The announcement seemingly frees Bruce Springsteen to extend the run of “Springsteen on Broadway” into the summer at the Kerr.

“Never say never,” Tallent has subsequently tweeted about the future of the band, in a more optimistic tone.

Never say never.

Meanwhile, the members of the E Street Band are making plans, setting dates and making music. Lofgren said he’s working on a new album, and he has U.S. shows in March and April, and U.K. shows in May set. Jake Clemons tweeted that he’s recording a new album at the Henson Recording Studio in Los Angeles.

Stevie Van Zandt said that’s he’ll possibly be touring the United Kingdom in 2018. He’s being inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park on May 6. Max Weinberg’s Jukebox has dates announced in the United States through July.

Patti Scialfa of the E Street Band is busy, too. She’s on Broadway each night with the Boss, who’s also her husband.
