By all accounts, John Fogerty and Bruce Springsteen aren’t just peers, but bona fide friends who even perform together onstage sometimes. Well, that all ends today as we pit these two icons against each other in the first round of this month’s UCR Hall of Fame voting.

Every month, readers will decide which of eight legendary artists or bands will be honored for their contributions to the genre. This particular battle features two of the most “no nonsense” stars in classic-rock history, each content to let his songwriting and live-performance ability make the case for his greatness year in and year out without any gimmicks or image makeovers.

Fogerty, formerly of Creedence Clearwater Revival, released his first solo album in 1973 and went on to prove (as if there was any doubt) that he was the true creative genius behind that amazing group with songs like ‘Centerfield’ and ‘The Old Man Down the Road.’ His long-delayed decision to once again start playing CCR songs in concert helped make his tours can’t-miss events.

Springsteen also released his first album in 1973, and over the next 40 years became one of the most revered artists of all time. His marathon live shows are the stuff of legend, and he has rewarded his loyal fans by consistently pushing himself into new creative territory on classic albums like ‘Born to Run,’ ‘Nebraska’ and ‘The River.’

So which one of these amazing and obviously worthy artists gets to move on to this month’s semifinals? It’s up to you. You can vote once a day from now until Feb. 16 in this first round battle. The next inductee to the Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame will be announced on March 3.

Springsteen vs. Fogerty is so 80's. I believe by now Springsteen has proven to be playing in an other league than Fogerty. Let him fight Dylan and get this over with.

I like that analogy but like all tournaments, you need the preliminary bouts.

I nearly fell asleep during JF's set.

Our hero knocked him out of the ring with the first cords of Thunder Road on his harmonica

The Winner and still Heavyweight Champion by a first round Knock Out......Mr. Bruce Springsteen

The loser, Mr. John Fogerty is till feeling the effects of that last punch.
